With the past few chapters researching Chainsaw Man’s capacity to float into its dark comedy, Chapter #87 picks on a critical note. Maxima unveils her Particular Division 5, a team composed of what she describes as”not human, Devils or Fiends.”
The Chainsaw Devil’s ability erases the titles of those he has eaten, yet somehow there are a select few whose existences stayed and have been recruited by Maxima.
However, before blades are drawn along with chainsaws revved, Makima discusses their last encounter where the Chainsaw Devil fought the Weapons Devil and Four Horsemen but suddenly disappeared before their own eyes. Makima shows that Pochita, the loveable dog-like companion of Denji, was the form that the Chainsaw Devil took if he was near death from their last struggle and has been the reason she was unable to locate him.
As Kobeni dances on the breakdance equipment, doing superbly also, we find Chainsaw man leave her there and move on to face Makima who is returned to life with a group of what looks like seven hybrids to catch and kill Chainsaw man. Surprisingly in this group is Reze, Denji’s ex-girlfriend along with the previously thought to be dead Bomb Devil, Katana Man, etc.
who have returned to life seemingly as Makima’s puppets and are joined by four new hybrids. Also, we don’t know what Kishibe is planning to do now that Makima revealed pieces of her strategy to him along with his understanding that Makima is unkillable. It will be interesting to observe how the story goes on henceforth. Also perplexing is the ultimate fate of the Chainsaw Devil and what happened to Denji.
Fans previously speculated that Kobeni could have attracted Denji back but it does not look like the situation now. He acted like it was a rigid and dull fragment of a nine-to-five job. “No big deal, everybody.
I’m just some devil going through the moves of my job without fail,” is what he would say if he found someone gazing at him in the distance a la the tricycle kid from The Incredibles.
