‘Schmigadoon!’ Filming for Season 2 has finished in Vancouver, Canada: Release Date, Cast, Synopsis & More

The second season of the funny musical comedy Schmigadoon has finished filming and will be made available for streaming on Apple TV+ soon. Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio co-created the sitcom, and Paul recently announced on Twitter that production for Season 2 has come to an end. Since the show’s premiere last year, audiences have been wowed by the blend of musical theatre fun and Paul’s original tunes. Before thanking everyone involved in making it happen, Paul sent a statement unveiling the wrap. He expressed his gratitude to the “best cast ever gathered” and the “amazing team in Vancouver.”

Let it all out for a moment, then bring it all together. An animated gif of Emma Tate, played by Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, declaring “I adore it!” was also included in the post. The story revolves around a couple of backpackers who happen across the mystical and mystifying town of Schmigadoon, where they meet the town’s music-loving residents and learn about the town’s fascinating history. True love, which they thought they already had, is required for the pair to leave the town. During the June announcement of the program’s second season, Apple TV+ revealed that the show would shift gears from 1940’s musical parodies to the 1960s and 1970s in the second season.

Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) will return to Schmicago, the realm of ’60s and ’70s music, after finding true love in the little village of Schmigadoon. True love was finally found by these two characters at the end of the first season. Josh and Melissa’s reconciliation convinced the pair that they could finally leave town across the bridge and return to New York. However, this was not a voyage that viewers would witness since the first season’s last episode ended suddenly. TVLine previously spoke with Key, and he confirmed that the couple’s decision not to cross the bridge was deliberate.

As the actor went on to explain, “We have a tactile finale, which is to suggest that [Melissa and Josh] have learnt the lesson that Schmigadoon has delivered to them.” DeBose, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming and Jane Krakowski round out the cast of Schmigadoon, which also includes Martin Short, Aaron Tveit and Jaime Camil, as well as Fred Armisen and Liam Quiring-Nkindi. Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page will join Armisen and Quiring-Nkindi in season two, but neither has been named as a cast member. Among other things, Paul is the show’s exec producer. Lorne Micheals, Andrew Singer, and Robert Luketic, the film’s director, serve as executive producers. Strong and Caroline Maroney co-executive produce alongside Michael Frank.
Season two has yet to be announced.
