AMC+ Renews ‘Moonhaven’ for a Second Season: Synopsis, Cast & Release Date

Despite the last episodes of season 1 premiering tonight on AMC+, AMC Networks has confirmed that Moonhaven will return for a second season. On August 4, AMC+ will show the season finale of Moonhaven, a six-episode series created by Peter Ocko (Lodge 49; Black Sails; Elementary; Pushing Daisies). AMC+ will air the second season, which will include six episodes, sometime in 2023. Moonhaven has become the streaming service’s most-watched exclusive series and the second-most-watched new series ever, trailing only the smash Western noir murder thriller Dark Winds. “Peter has done a fantastic job with this series, which is both amusing and educational.”

Dan McDermott, President of AMC Networks’ Entertainment & AMC Studios, remarked, “The tale is gripping, controversial, and predictive. The ensemble provides compelling performances.” I can’t wait to see what Peter and his crew have in store for season two. The fans are going to be blown away.” Moonhaven is a futuristic Moon colony that takes place 100 years in the future. Emma McDonald (Queens of Mystery) stars as Bella Sway, a lunar freight pilot and smuggler who is stranded on the station after being falsely convicted of a crime she did not commit.

An Earth-ending calamity is looming, and the Moonhaven has been established to discover a solution. Sway, stranded aboard the station, becomes embroiled in a plan to steal the artificial intelligence that is the source of Moonhaven’s wonders. Dominic Monaghan (Lost) plays a local detective named Paul Serno, with whom they team up to confront the forces bent on eradicating humanity’s final hope for existence. In addition to being the show’s creator and executive producer, Ocko also acts as the show’s showrunner and executive producer. Spera Moonhaven is a production of AMC Studios and an original AMC+ show.

While McDonald and Monaghan are the show’s two main stars, the rest of the ensemble includes Doctor Who’s Amara Karan and Lost Alice’s Ayelet Zurer as well as True Blood’s Joe Manganiello and Kadeem Hardison (The Last Tree). When asked about returning to the Moon and continuing the tale with this incredible cast and team, Ocko stated, “I couldn’t be more delighted.” It’s been a pleasure working with AMC+ and we can’t wait to continue our adventure together. Season 1 of Moonhaven comes to a close tonight on AMC+, with the final episode showing on August 4. In 2023, the second season of the utopian drama series will be released.
