Spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter 384
All For One starts to think back on his day and the events leading up to the war arc, and he realizes that the brainwashing Quirk that Machia is currently being subjected to is the same one that the Aoyama family used to successfully trick him earlier in the day.
Then, after making fun of Shinsou for saying that only villains should use brainwashing, we see All For One reach out his hand toward Machia as some energy starts to come from his hand as he hits MAchia with a huge shock wave in an attempt to bring him back to his senses. This shock wave does appear to be very powerful because it even briefly sends Machia flying. Here’s where things started going in a direction that not even All For One saw coming. When Machia begins to regain consciousness after taking the bullet that All For One fired at him, he says something unexpected.
Machia claims he can identify All For One just by smelling him, but he still doesn’t understand why AFO left him in Jaku. Hawks is bewildered and wonders if Shinsou is making Machia talk, but he also wonders how Shinsou could have done so so quickly, after the attacks, and especially because he didn’t hear Machia reply to what Shinsou said at any point. All For One makes a very perplexed look.
Here, we get a flashback of when All For One abandoned Machia in the mountains. This must have happened a very long time ago, before the struggle between All For One and All Might, in which All Might pretty completely crush All For One’s head, for All For One still does have his hair here. It’s safe to suppose that Machia hasn’t seen All For One in person since before all this happened, but even then, All For One had his sights set on the future; he assures Machia that his successor would come for him one day and that he’s extremely sad to say goodbye. Machia says he has been waiting for a long time, but now he knows that All For One has abandoned him, and we watch him cry as he says this.
About the 384th Chapter
Machia opens the chapter by attacking All For One, and he is seen on the page continuing this attack by scooping up a massive chunk of mountain and forest with his hand and preparing to toss it at All For One while yelling angrily. Tokoyami understands that Shinsou is brainwashing everyone, and he wonders if an attack from All For One would cancel out Shinsou’s quirk, but Hawks tells him that Mt. Lady is blocking the attacks at Machia, either taking them all on herself or blocking them with the giant wrench she is holding, and the panelling that Horikoshi does on this page is fantastic.
We see Tokoymi and Hawks inside the enormous type of Dark Shadow, but there is a Dark Shadow eye motif sort of dividing line between the two panels, placing us between Tokoyami and the conflict, where Machia is swinging at All For One. All For One is in the middle of several different attacks, including those from Mount Lady, Machia, Dark Shadow, and Inasa. He seems to be destroying the rocks and other debris that are flying at him, or at least pulsing them away, so he isn’t taking too much damage overall, but it’s clear that this is distracting him.
