On the battlefield, Yoichi and Rin are locked in combat. Yoichi’s strategy is based on capitalising on Barou’s erratic play to come out on top. The countdown to the premiere of Blue Lock Episode 22 has begun!
Recap of Episode 21
When Anri and Jinpachi were glued to the screens, Nagi scored a spectacular goal against Rin. Yet Jinpachi disagrees with Anri, thinking Nagi’s aim is not remarkable because he can do it again if the right circumstances arise. Yoichi, who has returned to the game, still can’t believe he beat Rin with Nagi’s lone goal. But Yoichi and Nagi need superior criteria than Rin to generate goals like the one before in order to beat Rin in the game. But, Yoichi must ultimately triumph over Rin on his own to earn the moniker “The World’s Best Striker.” So, it’s not good enough to be on par with Rin in terms of sight and intelligence. The Halftime of the game is over, and Rin is more hyped than normal. He certainly gives off an angry vibe as he urges his squad to give it their all if they want to stay up with him and ultimately win.
Tokimitsu is on the receiving end of a pass from Rin, who uses a backspin to throw off Barou, who is defending against the bulky player.
The ball is returned to Rin by Tokimitsu; she then makes a lofted pass to Aryu, who catches it with a chest takedown. Eventually, Chigiri catches up to Aryu and gets the ball back to Rin. As a two-man mark, Nagi and Yoichi tried to stop Rin, but Rin was always one step ahead of them. Bachira, who was being passed the ball by Rin, scored the opening goal of the second half for the red team. Yoichi then sees that Rin has used his manipulation of their individual skills and abilities to convert them into his field puppets.
Nagi is certain that Rin can read their every move and foil any conventional response. So, it is to their benefit to employ their weapons to their full potential, which runs against Rin’s reasoning. After play restarts, Rin’s squad use Bachira as an anchor in their defensive formation. To try and trick Tokimitsu and Bachira, Yoichi sends the ball to Chigiri, who flips it to Nagi and then sends it back to Yoichi.
When Yoichi was preparing to take a direct swing, Rin suddenly materialised in front of him, deflecting his force. Luckily, Barou rushes forward and steals the ball from one of his teammates. Like a lion waiting for the perfect moment to pounce, he was calmly waiting for his opportunity. Because Barou’s strategy was outside of Rin’s wheelhouse, the latter was able to score an incredible equaliser.
When Yoichi learns that Rin can’t read him, he knows he has to rely on Barou to come out on top. Yoichi plans to use Chigiri’s speed to harass the other team, especially Bachira and Rin, once play restarts. Barou’s plan to get the ball rolling worked, but Rin kicked the ball away from him before he could score twice in a row. This is not because Rin can foresee Barou’s moves; rather, he just happened to be in the right position at the right moment to capitalise on them. The winner, in Yoichi’s estimation, will be the player who best manages Barou’s erratic style of play. For Bachira, this fulfils a lifelong dream of being able to interact with monsters in a natural setting. The only problem is that he seems to not exist in the world that Rin and Yoichi live in, even if he is playing with them.
Now Rin and Tokimitsu are using speed passes to push the ball upfield. Tokimitsu tried a new tactic of assault, capitalising on his seemingly limitless energy and muscle, but he was denied a goal by Barou and Chigiri, who had already been cautioned. Rin converts a penalty shot by firing a top-spin shot above Yoichi’s head. He also makes fun of Yoichi for misjudging the situation while they were on the pitch and he had to decide whether to pass or shoot. In the last moments of the episode, Bachira considers his early experiences with soccer and the factors that led him to start playing.
