The fact that Yuji was able to get a good punch in on Sukuna after he cursed out Megumi suggests that Yuji’s host had already awoken and shut down the cursed energy production in an effort to protect him.

In particular, @toshismayo (Kay), a Jujutsu Kaisen enthusiast on Twitter, has compiled a fascinating thread that appears to prove Yuji Itadori is a Zenin family descendant. While many fans have welcomed the hypothesis with open arms, others have questioned its plausibility. The fandom as a whole appears to be divided on whether or not Kay’s idea and similar ones portraying Yuji as a Zenin are credible or laughably absurd. In any case, it’s an intriguing hypothesis supported by solid data. The protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji, is said to be a clan member since Wasuke Itadori was really Wasuke Zenin, according to fans.

After establishing that Wasuke is the 25th head of the Zenin clan, Kay continues down the rabbit hole by claiming that he is the biological father of both Jinichi Zenin and Toji Zenin, the former of whom inherited the Missile Fists Cursed Technique and the latter a Heavenly Limitation. Toji did, in fact, inherit a Heavenly Limitation, contrary to what was just said, which was completely theoretical. Wasuke, according to Kay, is the older sibling of both Ogi and Naobito Zenin. Both Maki and Mai Zenin may trace their ancestry to Yuji’s father; however, Yuji has a more direct connection to their father, the Zenin who fathered Naoya. Kay then reminds readers of a statement made by Ogi in Jujutsu Kaisen, in which he claims that he, not Naobito, would have been the 26th leader of the clan except for the interference of Maki and Mai.
She continues by saying that, for the sake of her argument, she presumes that the struggles between Naobito and Ogi for the post of the head clan continued for decades. Ogi’s births of Maki and Mai 17 years ago would have put a stop to this. It was roughly 12 years ago, according to Kay when Naobito would have assumed leadership of the tribe. She continues by saying that Wasuke, the 25th head, would have been disowned, abandoned the clan, or pretended to have died because of the severe discrimination against Heavenly Limitation in the realm of Jujutsu Kaisen. According to Kay, this is because of Toji’s Heavenly Limitation, which initially appeared when he was 6 years old (the typical onset age for Cursed Methods). She goes on to claim that whatever Toji’s father is, he would have an elder brother in Wasuke if the clan were the 24th. Because of this, he and his kid would have been stigmatised within the family as the first to be born with Heavenly Limitation. So that’s why his reign as clan chief would have been cut short and he’d be banished from the tribe forever.
Once Toji Zenin had died, according to Kay, the 25th head would have taken control. They reconcile these two scenarios by supposing that, in each case, Wasuke has been excommunicated from the clan, has abandoned his family, or has staged his own suicide. They point to the opening moments of Jujutsu Kaisen as evidence that Wasuke assumed the persona of Itadori. Wasuke, eager to begin again in his new life, had grown to loathe all things jujutsu-related. Thus was born Jin Itadori, who shares with Toji the same Heavenly Restriction. To keep his kid safe and let him live a regular life, Wasuke never disclosed jujutsu’s existence. As a result, Yuji Itadori was conceived, marking the beginning of the Jujutsu Kaisen novels.
