All hell broke loose on Egghead Island as shown in the prior chapters, with the seraphim clashing with Dr Vegapunk’s satellites and the Straw Hat Pirates. It is unclear if Zoro and Luffy will join forces with Kaku and Lucci. The Straw Hats are shown on the front colour spread of One Piece chapter 1076, “Old Friends,” where they are dressed in contemporary attire.
Zoro hears Nami screaming in the distance at the beginning of the chapter, and he and Luffy swiftly come to the conclusion that they must defend all Vegapunks at all costs. If they do make it out alive, Kaku says they’ll let Luffy cuff him again in the open. In addition, Lucci agrees to this arrangement, however, they add, “I want to murder you first anyhow, and when you’re dead, all of your Nakama will end up dead too.” Shaka tells Luffy, “You are free to do anything you want as long as you secure Stella’s safety,” so he lets Kaku and Lucci go, but Zoro thinks it’s a mistake to put their lives in their hands. Zoro and Kaku take on S-Hawk, while Luffy and Lucci team up to take on S-Bear. As Luffy and Lucci employ Gear Four and their hybrid form, respectively, S-Hawk already possesses Supa Supa No Mi abilities thanks to Daz Bones/Mr. 1. Both S-Bear and S-Hawk are blasted out of the structure by a combined assault.
Here we see the actual Vegapunk (Stella), disguised as an elderly guy, awakening in a laboratory cell. He is bound and injured. Some Cipher Pol operatives have been in prison for a while alongside Vegapunk. Vegapunk ponders how they got here and muses to himself that it’s odd that his study was leaked to the World Government. Jump to the armada of almost a hundred ships sailing for Egghead Island.
Back in Elbaf, where Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates have taken up drinking, the scene shifts to a local watering hole. When a giant approaches Shanks and asks if he may come aboard their ship and work as a crew member, Shanks politely declines and the barmaid instructs the monster to leave them alone. Afterwards, Shanks learns that several Child Pirates are on their way to the island, so he gets out of his chair and remarks that he hopes they don’t do too much damage to the bar.
After learning that Brogy, Dorry, Karsee, and Oimo are all drinking together, Shanks departs the pub with Brogy and Dorry in tow, telling Rockstar to contact Kid before the fight. While the fight rages on the Kid’s Pirate ship, Killer admits that Kid couldn’t even see Shanks’ face the previous time they battled and warns that he may lose more than one arm this time. At the end of the chapter, we see Shanks making his way towards the shore while a band of pirates cheers him on.
The spoilers also indicate that there would be a hiatus in the One Piece manga the following week, however, confirmation won’t come until after the release of chapter 1076.
