When the spoilers for Boruto chapter 78 were released, fans were overjoyed to see the show moving closer to its time jump, as Boruto finally got the scar they’d been speculating about. It’s a cause for celebration, but not everyone is happy with how Boruto got his scar. Several viewers voiced their displeasure with the show’s creators for portraying Sarada as a helpless victim. Sarada had remarked in the preceding chapter of Boruto that she could not sit on the sidelines and do nothing if she truly desired to become the Hokage, which is exactly what happened. Despite her declaration that she wants to aid her comrades, she is seen to need Boruto’s assistance in order to stay alive, which is a direct contradiction to the action she is shown to take.
Several fans voiced disagreement with these statements, noting that Sarada had rescued Boruto numerous times. Nevertheless, the “damsel in distress” narrative only gained traction in the fandom when positions were reversed. Fans are confident, however, that Sarada’s character will be strengthened by this experience, since she may come to hate herself for Boruto’s eye injury. Kawaki was trying to murder Boruto because of Momoshiki’s existence in him, but why Momoshiki decided to defend Kawaki is still a mystery. Hence, readers won’t be able to discover until Boruto chapter 78 is made available internationally.
