Spoilers for the next chapter 212 of Jujutsu Kaisen were posted earlier this week, detailing some extremely disturbing events that will mostly affect Megumi Fushiguro and Yuji Itadori. Now that the Binding Vow he made with Yuji is being carried out, it is believed that Sukuna fed Megumi a finger infused with Cursed Energy to use her as his new vessel. Recent spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen reveal that Megumi has apparently given up all physical power to Sukuna. Fans of Chainsaw Man have chimed in, noting the striking resemblance between Megumi and Aki Hayakawa. While comparisons between the two have been made previously, primarily focusing on the general character designs and tropes, this is the first time that fans of both series have felt compelled to draw this specific connection. Here, I’ll detail how recent spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen show that the two are in remarkably comparable positions, and I’ll also provide a quick summary of the spoilers themselves.
Synopsis, with a few hints hidden
Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 212 reveal that after a quick look back at Megumi and Tsumiki in the past, we return to the present, where Yuji is reflecting on their successes and the success of their endeavours thus far. As he expresses his gratitude to Gojo and Megumi for “offering him a part,” the last scene from the previous issue is shown. Tsumiki’s imposter then tries to pass off Megumi as his sister. Then the audience finds out that the reincarnated ancient sorcerer is able to read the memories of their vessel and use that information to become the vessel itself, gaining current wisdom from the brain of their vessel.
This allowed “Tsumiki” to remain undetected until recently; they have since confirmed their status as a centuries-old sorcerer by claiming they haven’t engaged in a battle for a thousand years. They also say that Sukuna will be their opponent in an unspecified location. In chapter 212 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji and Angel go in pursuit of Impostor-Tsumiki when she uses her newly acquired wings to escape. Sukuna makes an unexpected appearance and repeats the terms of his binding commitment to Yuji. Sukuna, who has now taken complete control of their body, knocks out Hana and Angel and explains that the pledge gives him complete control of their body for one minute. Yuji’s stipulation was that Sukuna not kill anybody during this period, as was revealed.
When Sukuna imbues Yuji’s finger with Cursed Energy, she rips it off later and declares, “it’s” a gamble from now on. He then mocks Yuji’s naivete by claiming that he never made any such pledge and that he fully intends to endanger both himself and Yuji within the stipulated minute. Megumi, in an attempt to call upon the Mahoraga, is then tackled and given the finger. When Yuji finally comes to, he discovers that Sukuna has possessed Megumi’s body.
The latest point of convergence between Aki and Megumi
A parallel between Aki Hayakawa of “Chainsaw Man” and Megumi Fushiguro of “Jujutsu Kaisen” has been made for some time, but the most recent turn of events for the latter only serves to strengthen the initial connection. The similarities between Aki and Megumi’s designs, personalities, and roles in their respective shows led fans to make comparisons between the two. Denji, for Aki, and Yuji, for Megumi, both play the role of gloomy elder brother figures. Both are portrayed as deadpan and direct compared to the ridiculously exaggerated personalities of the protagonists. Similarities in voice acting and general character design can also be seen in the two anime series.
The latest Jujutsu Kaisen twist makes Aki and Megumi even more alike, as it echoes a very terrifying chain of events from Chainsaw Man. Aki, along with Makima, Angel Devil, and a few other characters from Chainsaw Man, dies while battling the Gun Devil. On the other hand, the Gun Devil decides to possess Aki’s corpse, transforming him into the Gun Fiend and compelling him to battle Denji and forsake his former principles. Denji is eventually compelled to kill Aki because he must choose between ending Aki’s murderous rampage against the victims he vowed to protect and letting that rampage continue unabated.
The latest rumoured spoilers see Sukuna possessing Megumi’s body, leading fans to believe that she will be travelling a road very similar to Aki’s. While this is just conjecture at the time of writing, many readers of both series believe this to be inevitable for the future of Gege Akutami’s work.
