The 280th Episode Recap
In the opening scene of episode 280 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, titled “Breakthrough,” Boruto confronts Kiseru about the murders of Batta and Fugou and Kiseru’s participation with Ouga. Boruto probes Kiseru about his secret communication device, which may provide light on his motives for killing Batta. Meanwhile, Kiseru refuted what Boruto said, saying that Boruto has more faith in Rokuro than he does. While they chat about Boruto, Shamo and Yatsume are helping Namua. When Shamo sees that Namua’s wounds are more severe than he had thought, he goes to Rokuro for help, and Rokuro tells him that an exit has been found. When Namua told Yatsume he was dying, the gate shut quickly behind them. Using his last bit of energy, Namua immediately opens the gate so Yatsume, Shamo, and Rokuro may escape.
On the other hand, Boruto tracks down Kiseru, only to discover that he is making use of the communication equipment that Batta had earlier spotted. Kiseru hands Boruto his card, but Boruto is just curious about his identity. Boruto learns that Namua has passed away when Rokuro, Yatsume, and Shamo arrive. All of Boruto’s claims regarding Kiseru being an Ouga henchman turned out to be accurate. Kiseru, to Yatsume’s chagrin, would likewise tell fibs to further his career. Kiseru decides to run away from everyone at once and unleashes his Intense Flame Blast fire technique. As predicted, Boruto and the others decide to follow Kiseru in order to find out where they might leave the maze. Kiseru took them to a cryptic cavern where he was waiting for them. On their return to the trap location, Sarada, Kawaki, and Mitsuki are ambushed by four masked shinobi. Kiseru fights Yatsume back in the cave before going on to Shamo. Yatsume uses lightning jutsu on Kiseru, but her strike just makes things worse. Thank goodness Boruto shows there to save Kiseru from hurting Yatsume and Shamo. As he runs away, Kiseru drops a scroll. Shamo grabs it, knowing it’s an important mission order. Before Boruto fights Kiseru, Shamo must reveal to him that Kiseru is not one of Ouga’s subordinates. When the four masked shinobi are revealed to be Anbu from the same village, Sarada knows they are not their enemy.
They’re top-tier Hidden Leaf ninjas from the Five Great Nations’ combined investigative squad. They are also looking into the nationwide disappearances that have happened recently. The Anbu reveals that Kiseru is a member of their investigative team while Sarada, Kawaki, and Mitsuki look into his actual identity. The Anbu dispatched Kiseru to act as an undercover agent for the duration of their investigation. Due to his status as an Outer, the Anbu is certain that the surviving members of the Shell are at fault for the disappearances, making it imperative that Kiseru be dispatched as a spy. Also, the Anbu discloses that it’s not only Kiseru behind the infiltration; they’ve sent in a few hand-picked shinobi as well, and they all say the same thing: don’t believe anything.
The Anbu were left in the dark after Kiseru died, just as they had been with the others who had served them. Even though Sarada and the others trusted the Anbu, they were still denied assistance in the inquiry since it was against the regulations for them to leak mission instructions. What’s worse, they are unable to expose their genuine identities, which often has catastrophic results. Kiseru returns to the cave and finally understands what everyone has been talking about. This means that they are helpless in the face of this fact, no matter how hard they try. After hearing this, Boruto feels furious at Kiseru for tricking and laughing at them. It seems he’s about to start a fight with Kiseru until Shamo steps in. Kiseru utilised a jutsu on Shamo’s back while Boruto slowed his Rasengan.
Despite his wounds, Shamo insists to Boruto that he was wronged. To the shock of Yatsume and Rokuro, who had just arrived, Kiseru stabbed Boruto in the stomach with a kunai after discovering that the labyrinth was really a genjutsu. Boruto wakes up from his nap in the middle of an experiment and finds himself in a small cubicle. All of his previous successes had been genjutsu, he thinks.
