Updated plot summary
Goku’s son Goten and Vegeta’s ward Trunks will take centre stage in this new arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga, as teased in the promotional artwork. Their admirers have been left wondering where they’ve been all this time because they rarely make public appearances. Based on what we know, this storyline will serve as a prologue to the next Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film. In this way, it will include events leading up to the showdown with the Red Ribbon Army, Gamma 1 and 2, and Cell Max. Poster art with Goten and Trunks in new attire suggests a major plot twist is on the horizon. As for what’s written on the poster, it says: “Now a brand new chapter has started. Are they maybe superheroes?” Gohan and Piccolo, who can be seen at the bottom of the image below Goku, have also been confirmed to play significant roles. Finally, the last chapter hinted at the tyrant Frieza’s new form, “Black Frieza,” which he had accomplished. Details about it and the identity of the “new target” he was pursuing are expected to be disclosed in subsequent chapters.

Updates for Chapter 88

There has been no word about the manga’s reappearance since the publishing of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87. After a long hiatus, Dragon Ball Super will return next month with Chapter 88. Via December 20, 2022, the next chapter will be made available to readers throughout the world on the Viz Media and Manga Plus websites. The following table details when each new chapter will be made available:
The time in the Pacific is currently 7:00 AM PST, while in the Central and Eastern Hemispheres it is currently 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, respectively.
At three o’clock in the afternoon GMT (British time),
Currently, it is 8:30 p.m. IST in India, which is 4:00 p.m. CEST in Europe.

The new release date has been announced, and with it comes information on the new arc’s major characters and a summary. A few reliable Twitter leakers, including Anime News And Facts and Shonen Jump News Unofficial, broke the story first. Now, due to a legit magazine ad, we know the rumours were true: Dragon Ball Super will be back with Chapter 88 on December 20.

The next chapter’s poster was also unveiled, giving readers a preview of what to expect in the next story arc. On the front, you can see Trunks and Goten, and the caption reads, “A new chapter has started. Are they maybe superheroes?” Gohan and Piccolo are seen at the bottom, with Goku to their right. Although Gohan and Piccolo will have significant screen time in the forthcoming arc, Goten and Trunks will continue to receive the most attention. We will be seeing what happens before the battle between Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 as well as Piccolo and Gohan in this arc, as it serves as a precursor to the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie.

Fans will be on edge for a few more weeks until we get to watch our young heroes go on their new adventures, but in the meantime, they may marvel at Freiza’s new Black Form from the conclusion of the Granolah The Survivor arc. The next few chapters will likely centre on Freiza in her new, more formidable, and wicked form.
