The shocking conclusion of My Hero Academia chapter 371 revealed some of Mezo Shoji’s backstory, including the persecution he endured because of his outward appearance and the fact that he was beaten by the villagers despite saving the life of a drowning kid. Concerning mutants, the chapter shifted focus to Spinner, showing how All For One had broken his will and transformed him into a mindless robot ready to carry out commands. At the end of the chapter, there was a fleeting suggestion that Oboro Shirakumo, who was trapped inside Kurogiri, could yet be rescued. Spoilers for the next chapter 372 have revealed some frightening details.
In the next chapter of My Hero Academia, will Oboro Shirakumo make a comeback?
Oboro Shirakumo, or Loud Cloud, was a Pro Hero trainee and a former U.A. High student in Class 2-A with other aspiring heroes including Shota Aizawa (Eraser Head) and Hizashi Yamada (Present Mic). They were a tight-knit group of three pals. Unfortunately, the carefree and jovial Shirakumo was killed while engaged in a Hero Work-Studies struggle with a villain. After the battle, All For One retrieved his body and turned him into a Nomu they named Kurogiri. This Nomu was later tasked with looking after Tomura Shigaraki, who had replaced All For One. Next, My Hero Academia chapter 372 spoilers show Spinner and Present Mic racing to the tower while yelling “Kurogiri” and “Shirakumo,” respectively.
Kurogiri was in danger, and All For One told the former to go save him by playing a tape of either Tomura’s or AFO’s voice. He was, thus, inactive at the moment. My Hero Academia has previously shown that Shirakumo was still within the Nomu’s body, however, he remained invisible due to the haze created by Kurogiri. His Hero Work-Studies ended in death, although Kurogiri has displayed some of Shirakumo’s traits. It was highly suggestive that he recognised Eraser Head and Present Mic when they came to interview him.
Instantly, he was able to identify every one of them. Another indicator was Kurogiri’s superior intelligence, which set him apart even among Nomu. In addition, he was more of a diplomat than a man who craved violence, and he lacked that specific hatred. Earlier episodes of My Hero Academia showed Aizawa visiting Kurogiri daily while he was healing so that he could talk to and maybe inspire him. Despite the futility of his attempts, it was noteworthy that he was now unable to use his Warp Quirk (with the other copy of it destroyed by Mirko during the war).
What All For One mentioned is also interesting and should be considered. He told Spinner to play a tape of his or Tomura Shigaraki’s voice in order to “activate” Kurogiri. These clues suggest that the Nomu can seize power in Kurogiri by means of a predetermined set of circumstances. Shirakumo isn’t trapped in there by himself, after all.
Concluding Remarks
No one knows yet why or how Kurogiri figures into the plans of My Hero Academia’s enemy, All For One. It’s intriguing, though, that only Tomura Shigaraki’s or AFO’s voice serves as a trigger. It’s likely that Present Mic knows the secret to Shirakumo’s probable reappearance if it has to do with periodicity. Furthermore, the significance of the blocked chamber should soon become clear.
