As the last episode of House of the Dragon airs, viewers are getting ready to sit down and watch the entire season in one sitting. The first season of House of the Dragon will soon be available on DVD and Blu-ray from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Scheduled for release on December 20, the package will include all ten episodes of the critically acclaimed HBO series as well as over an hour’s worth of special material, including two brand-new, never-before-seen featurettes in which the show’s creators and stars discuss the development of the show. The prequel series to “Game of Thrones” transports viewers back in time nearly two centuries, to when the Targaryen dynasty was at the height of its power and wealth.
Based on George R. R. Martin’s novel Fire and Blood, the events of the first season set the stage for a civil war among the Targaryens, which ultimately threatens the survival of the dragon riders’ dynasty and all of its majestic enormous creatures. After years of being unable to produce a male successor, King Viserys the Peaceful names his firstborn daughter Rhaenyra as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. On the other hand, he marries Alicent Hightower, a boyhood friend and the daughter of his Hand, and his sons by her. When Viserys lies on his deathbed, Alicent interprets the prophecy of Fire and Ice to mean that he wants their son Aegon the II to succeed in the kingdom.
This is when the real problem begins. The seven kingdoms are ruled by patriarchy regardless of who sits on the Iron Throne, and the men of Westeros are willing to wage war under the orders of these ladies. Martin and showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik have rearranged several events from the original story to create a more exciting and unpredictable show. House of the Dragon has skipped ahead 20 years in just 10 episodes, introducing a vast cast of people and the dragons they’ll be using in the future civil war. A plethora of talented actors and actresses contribute to the show, including Paddy Considine as King Viserys, Matt Smith as Daemon, Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower (teen and adult), Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra (teen and adult), Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon the Sea Snake, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys, Fabien Frankel as Ser On December 20, you can purchase House of the Dragon: The Complete First Season on 4K Ultra HD Limited Collectable Steelbook Edition (includes Blu-ray), 4K Ultra HD Standard Edition, Blu-ray, and DVD.
