Adding Lily James (fresh off her role in Pam & Tommy) to the cast of A24 and Access Industries’ The Iron Claw is a major coup for the upcoming feature. She has not yet been confirmed for any part in the film. Her character’s backstory remains a mystery, but she joins the likes of Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman) and Harris Dickinson (Where the Crawdads Sing) in the ensemble. The film also stars Jeremy Allen White (Shameless) and Maura Tierney, in addition to Holt McCallany (Mindhunter) (ER).
The film is directed and written by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene), and House Productions’ Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, and Angus Lamont are connected as producers.
The logline for The Iron Claw claims that the film is inspired by real events and will follow the emergence and collapse of the Von Erich wrestling dynasty of the 1960s. Based on the actual story of one of the most influential families in wrestling, and with an ensemble of accomplished performers, The Iron Claw has the potential to be both a fascinating look into their lives and a rich and emotionally gripping movie.
As the film’s release date draws near, more information will likely be made public. James’s prior successful film roles include the title part in Disney’s live-action Cinderella adaptation and the title character in the sequel to the 2008 musical blockbuster Mamma Mia!, Here We Go Again. She most recently portrayed Pamela Anderson in the Hulu drama Pam & Tommy, which also starred Sebastian Stan and Seth Rogen. James is set to appear in the forthcoming film Providence, directed by Potsy Ponciroli, alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper), Traci Lords (Excision), and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou? ), among others. She also has a starring part in the forthcoming Saverio Costanzo film Finalmente l’alba, which also stars Willem Dafoe (The Northman), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), and Rachel Sennott (Bodies Bodies Bodies).
Now that the great actor has joined the cast of a new movie from A24, moviegoers will have even more reason to anticipate the premiere of the film, The Iron Claw. There is currently no confirmed release date for The Iron Claw as the film is still under development.
