The 2nd season of the popular HBO series House of the Dragon will feature conflict, but viewers may have to wait a while to witness it. Fans were left wondering about the future of the show & when they might expect the second season of the popular Game of Thrones prequel series after last night’s sombre Season 1 finale, in which a series of events, having death, stillbirth, & scheming, leads to the inevitable prospect of war over the Iron Throne. The second season’s release date has not yet been set, although there are updates on the shooting schedule. According to a Variety story, Season 2 of House of the Dragon will start shooting in the early part of 2023. The information was provided by Ryan Condal, the co-creator and executive producer of the series, who also spoke with Variety about other facets of the future season, including an increased scope for the conflict that is currently developing in Season 2.
Condal said that “[j]ust as the original Game of Thrones increased in scale and width as it continued, so, too, will ours” in reference to the second season’s expanding globe. He said that the series would still have a number of important locations that serve as its backdrop, saying that the production has “…lived a good bit in three separate worlds during this show: King’s Landing, Dragonstone, and Driftmark.” Additionally, he stated, “Those will remain the show’s home bases.” However, Westeros is about to enter into a war. Furthermore, Condal states that this fight “will demand allegiances from various kingdoms and forces all over the map of Westeros.” He added, though, that viewers shouldn’t anticipate quite as many locations as in the first series, saying “In the end, I don’t think the scope will be quite as large as it was in the first season of Game of Thrones. But there will undoubtedly be a lot more new worlds to come, including some that you may not have seen in the first season of the show. There is a lot of room for growth.”
The second season’s precise release date has not yet been determined. Although it is still unclear whether a 2023 release date is feasible, viewers may rest easy knowing that the production crew is hard at work on the second season. In order to keep up with our fans’ robust appetites for new content and HBO’s need and desire to broadcast the programme in a timely manner from season to season, Condal observed that “[w]e really have to storm straight into the making of Season 2 now.” So lovers of the series need not worry since there will undoubtedly be more dragon stories in the future. HBO Max now offers streaming access to all of Season 1’s episodes of House of the Dragon.
