Successfully navigating less-than-ideal conditions at the box office, like Don’t Worry Darling did, proves that movies can succeed against the odds. Consequences such as these include both unfavourable critical reception and ongoing controversy, the latter of which may have served to increase interest in the picture. However, while reviewers gave Don’t Worry Darling a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, moviegoers were much more forgiving, giving the film a 74% rating. Booksmart, Olivia Wilde’s 2019 directorial debut, made approximately $25 million on an estimated budget of under $6 million.
After the success of the film, Wilde chose to work with Booksmart co-writer Katie Silberman again on the film Don’t Worry Darling. Alice (Florence Pugh) is a housewife who, in Wilde’s second feature film as director, comes to think that there is more to her town and her husband Jack (Harry Styles) than meets the eye. Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Lane, Nick Kroll, and Olivia Wilde all feature in the film. The movie “Don’t Worry, Darling” is still in theatres at the moment.
