The new promo for Matriarch, a British horror thriller premiering on Hulu tonight, was recently posted by Variety. The protagonist of Matriarch, an ad executive, abandons her frantic life to spend time with her estranged mother, only to discover a diabolical mystery lurking in her hometown. Jemima Rooper, Kate Dickie, Franc Ashman and Keith David Bartlett (making his feature debut) star in Matriarch, which was written and directed by Ben Steiner. In the latest preview for Matriarch, we see what appears to be the opening sequence.
The video shows Laura (Rooper) working as her mother tries to contact her through a phone call. Frightened, Laura begs the person on the other end of the call to tell her mother that she quit her job a year ago. Maxine, Laura’s employer and friend, walks into Laura’s office and is astonished to learn that Laura’s mother is still alive. Maxine suspects Laura is high on drugs as she sees blood coming out of her nose. Laura abruptly resigns from her job and then abuses Maxine viciously. This preview does a great job of conveying the film’s ominous, gothic atmosphere. The matriarch was produced by Eoin O’Faolain and Ian Sharp, with David Worthen Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian, and Jenna Cavelle in the executive producer roles.
Huluween, the service’s selection of new and vintage horror films for the Halloween season, includes Matriarch. 20th Digital Studio, who also created the Huluween original Grimcutty, is responsible for the film’s creation and production. Antlers, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Stephen King’s Storm of the Century are just some of the films you can view as part of Hulu’s Huluween celebration. Hulu subscribers may watch Matriarch right now.
