Nightbitch, a horror comedy, has officially begun production. According to Deadline, Mary Holland will also be appearing with Amy Adams in the film. Holland has risen to prominence because of her portrayal of Jane Caldwell in Happiest Season, but she also made waves with her performances in Senior Year, Blunt Talk, and The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. Holland’s present involvement in the next film is unknown. She’ll be co-starring with actor Scoot McNairy (of Gone Girl, Killing Them Softly, 12 Years a Slave, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood fame) and actor Amy Adams.
Adams was recently sighted for the first time on set in Los Angeles, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise as it was already announced that production will begin this autumn. Based on the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder of the same name, the film Nightbitch follows the psychological tribulations of a housewife (Adams) who is responsible for raising her young child alone. A story about a new mother’s feelings of solitude suddenly takes a dark turn as she comes to a startling realization: she is becoming a dog. The exhausted new mother starts to wonder whether she is losing her humanity as she adapts to her new role as a caretaker.
The film’s source material, a novel, was praised for its fresh perspective on parenting in the contemporary world, so it will be fascinating to watch how those ideas are translated to the big screen. The Hulu horror film, directed by Marielle Heller, will be released through the streaming service. Heller, Adams, Megan Ellison, Anne Carey, Stacy O’Neil, Christina Oh, Adam Paulsen, and Sue Neagle are all involved in the production of the piece. Ella Thomas and Garrett C. Phillips are also featured in the cast. The protagonist’s soon-to-be ex-husband, played by Jason Ritter, will also be featured.
Adams and Annapurna Pictures, an independent studio, will be working together on the project for the second time. Adams’s past Annapurna films credits include Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2012 feature The Master and 2014’s Vice. Being so early in development, information on the film is limited. As a result, there is currently no confirmed release date.
