Disney’s planned Haunted Mansion film is reportedly making great strides, which is great news for all you happy ghosts out there, as reported by Jamie Lee Curtis. Within the pages of Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview. Director Justin Simien hit the “perfect spot of terrifying, humorous, and exciting,” according to Curtis. Preparations for the film’s August 11th release in the United States are proceeding smoothly. Curtis commented on the development, saying, “You know, it’s cooking. I’m not much of a chef, but I try my hand at the kitchen on the regular. Cooking is always an adventure since you never know whether or not your efforts will result in a tasty dish until the final stages. And from what I can tell, Justin has cooked up a delicious treat. The star of Halloween was limited in her ability to provide further details. Nonetheless, she did provide a few more intriguing details about the film. It’s up-to-date, novel, retro, and eerily frightening without being as frightful as a typical monster film. It has the humour and scariness of a Disney ride.
There’s a lot of funny stuff on the ride in addition to the frightening ghost stuff if you decide to go on it. She also spoke very highly of the film’s costume designer, Jeffrey Kurland, calling his creations “some of the most gorgeous” she has ever worn. After concerns that Guillermo Del-Toro’s original screenplay might be too mature for general audiences, he engaged Katie Dippold to rewrite it. In July of 2021, Justin Simien was tapped to helm an adaptation of Disney’s attraction of the same name. Dan Lin and Johnathon Eirick are attached as producers.
In addition to Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Winona Ryder, Jared Leto, and Danny DeVito, Curtis will be joined by an all-star cast. The first Disney film based on the attraction starred Eddie Murphy and was released in 2003. The film’s original March 10 release date had to be pushed back due to production issues. There is no confirmation that it will be shown in theatres. On August 11 of 2023, Haunted Mansion will be made available to the public.
