A new trailer for the 2nd season of The White Lotus on HBO suggests that something dark is happening. The latest round of vacationers are checking into the eponymous resort in Sicily, Italy, but they shouldn’t expect a peaceful getaway; instead, they may expect murder and mayhem. Fan-favourite character Tanya McQuoid, played by Jennifer Coolidge, reappears on screen, this time aboard a boat, with the voiceover narrating, “I feel like I’m in a dream. The effect is really intoxicating. The second season of the Emmy-winning Mike White-created comedy will have an entirely new cast of characters, with the exception of Coolidge and her character’s love interest turned husband Greg (Jon Gries).
Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe, who play the Spillers, a married couple on their way to the famous resort for a romantic time filled with reconnection, also get some nice closeups in the promotional look. But from the looks on both of their faces, it’s clear that the Spillers’ vacation won’t be relaxing at all. The couple’s pals, the Babcocks (Meghann Fahy and Theo James), are also seen in the little movie, raising a glass to the start of their Italian vacation. When Michael Imperioli’s Dominic Di Grasso travels to America with his son Albie (Adam DiMarco) and his father Bert (F. Murray Abraham), he is spotted staring up at a woman in his hotel room and soaking in more than he is telling his family.
Then a scene of a corpse bag being carried by the police cuts in, showing that not even the height of luxury is without its shadow side. Season 2 of The White Lotus introduces a number of new characters, including those shown in the trailer. Portia, Tanya’s assistant, will be played by Haley Lu Richardson, while Tom Hollander will play Quentin, an expat visiting with his nephew Jack (Leo Woodwall). Mia (Beatrice Grann) and Lucia (Simona Tabasco) are two local women out for a good time, while Valentina (Sabrina Impacciatore) is the hotel manager in charge of guest relations.
Just over a month after sweeping the Emmys with 11 nominations and five wins, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress, the second season premieres on HBO on October 30. With the hype surrounding the second season of the show continuing to build, viewers are eager to see what White’s new (and returning) characters at the titular hotel have in store for them.
