Stephen “Steph” Curry appears criminally underestimated, despite his status as one of the greatest NBA players of all time. Through his thirteen years in the NBA, Curry has established himself as a legend and maybe the best shooter in the history of the game. Underrated, a documentary produced by Apple Original Films, A24, and Curry’s Unanimous Media, will examine Curry’s whole career. Peter Nicks, a director and producer who has won an Emmy, will helm the future picture. Ryan Coogler, who was nominated for an Oscar, will join Erick Peyton as a producer for the film.
Underrated will examine not just his groundbreaking performance in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, but also his innovative and game-changing (quite literally) style of play for the course of his thirteen-year NBA career. When he first entered the NBA, Stephen Curry was mostly ignored as a potential. The film will culminate with Curry winning his first (albeit delayed) NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Trophy and leading the Golden State Warriors to their fourth NBA championship in 2022. The new movie is part of the first-look agreement between A24 and Unanimous.
The critically acclaimed Val, which profiled the great actor Val Kilmer, and the postmortem portrait Amy, which paid tribute to the legendary singer Amy Winehouse, are only two of the most prominent films from A24. A24 has already worked with Apple TV+ to release the second season of the design documentary series Home, which was nominated for an Emmy. Among Apple TV+’s numerous critically acclaimed and award-winning sports shows are Underrated, a docuseries that tells the untold story of some of the sports’ biggest figures.
Make or Break follows a number of professional World Surf League surfers, and the Earvin “Magic” Johnson biopic The Long Game: Bigger Than Basketball. The addition of this documentary to Apple TV+’s already impressive library of original programming is welcome news. There is still no specific release date for the documentary, but the streaming service has already distinguished itself with shows like Ted Lasso and CODA, which won an Academy Award.
