The First Trailer for ‘A Man Called Otto’, Synopsis, Release Date & Cast Details

Columbia Pictures has unveiled a brand new teaser for their upcoming film version of Fredrik Backman’s international bestseller, A Man Called Otto. Tom Hanks plays the title role as a jaded widower who delights in teasing his next-door neighbours in this film.
Otto, a guy who seems to loathe humans, is introduced in the trailer. Walking around his neighbourhood, Otto gets frustrated with dog owners whose pets urinate on the sidewalk, angry at delivery trucks that park in no-parking zones and infuriated by his early-rising exercise-minded neighbours.

The smallest public displays of happiness make Otto miserable, and he spends his days alone making enemies out of everyone he meets. The only time Otto seems to connect with human beings in the trailer is when he pays his respects to his late wife in the cemetery, so perhaps there is a deeper explanation for his grumpiness. When Marisol (Mariana Trevio) and her family move into Otto’s building, he begins to warm up to them. Marisol is so pregnant that she looks like she’s about to give birth any minute, yet she musters up a lot of strength to confront Otto about his nasty behaviour.

Despite this, Marisol seems set on befriending Otto; the preview shows him teaching the lady to drive and even nannying for his neighbour’s two kids. But as the teaser indicates, transforming Otto into a rational human being is no simple chore, as he is willing to battle a magician in a clown costume for a quarter. Marc Forster helms the film A Man Called Otto from a scenario written by David Mage. A previous collaboration between the two can be found in the film Finding Neverland. Hanks, together with Rita Wilson, Gary Goetzman, and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro, produce the film A Man Called Otto.

Additional executive producers include Forster, Renée Wolfe, and David Magee. Rachel Keller, Cameron Britton, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo also star in A Man Called Otto. Beginning on December 25 in New York and Los Angeles, A Man Called Otto will have a select release before expanding nationwide on January 13, 2023.

Synopsis
This film adaptation of the #1 New York Times bestseller depicts the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grouchy widower who is quite set in his ways. His life is turned upside down when the youthful, energetic family next door meets its match in the sassy and very pregnant Marisol. Hear a hilarious and touching tale about how some families may be found in the unlikeliest of places.
