It’s always great to see familiar faces, even in cameo roles, return to long-running TV programmes. Grey’s Anatomy, a popular medical drama, is one example of a show that successfully integrates returning and new cast members. Patients and physicians from previous seasons have returned, and that trend doesn’t appear to be ending any time soon. Greg Germann, who portrayed Dr Tom Koracick on the programme, will reportedly return in an upcoming episode of the currently airing twentieth season, according to TVLine. Although he wasn’t one of the founding doctors presented at the start of the medical drama, the neurosurgeon eventually became a series regular at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital from Season 14 all the way through Season 17.
We were able to observe his career and private life as they unfolded throughout that time, and it was fascinating to watch. Following the breakup of his relationship with Dr Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), who later married Dr Owen Hunt, he left the programme in Season 17. (Kevin McKidd). As the medical drama entered its 18th season, Germann made a brief comeback as a guest star. In November 3 episode 5 of Season 19, titled “When I Get to the Border,” Germann will make his second guest appearance on the medical drama since leaving.
According to reports, in the next episode, Koracick will contact Dr Catherine Avery in Boston on a personal problem, which should be fascinating given that he recently broke up with Teddy and she is presently going through a rough patch with her husband, Owen. We recall that after leaving Grey Sloan, Koracick went to work for the Catherine Fox Foundation, an organisation Dr Jackson Avery (Catherine’s son) founded in an effort to redeem the name of the Harper Avery Foundation, which had been tarnished by Harper Avery’s multiple sexual harassment allegations.
Jesse Williams, who plays Koracick’s supervisor at the foundation, Dr Jackson Avery, will make a return appearance in this episode. Both of them left after Season 17 but have made subsequent guest appearances. Dr Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), who has been teased for a brief return this season, will appear in the episode directed by Williams.
The showrunner of the medical drama, Krista Vernoff, initially hinted at Germann’s comeback when she said, “we will miss Greg tremendously in the day-to-day — but we intend to see Tom Koracick again!” when Germann left the programme in 2021.
Fans were surprised, however, as the show’s revival spanned two full seasons. Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 largely focuses on the professional and personal lives of new interns who were introduced in the season premiere. ABC airs new episodes of the medical drama every Thursday night at 9 p.m.
