In September, fans of the popular comic were saddened (and startled) to hear that Noah had decided to leave The Daily Show after seven years. Noah hinted during the event that he has been busy with other projects for his production firm, Day Zero Productions. It would appear that one of these endeavours was a new comedy special for Netflix since the service made the announcement of its impending release today. Noah adds to his Netflix canon with the release of I Wish You Would, his third stand-alone special. Son of Patricia (2018) and Afraid of the Dark (2017) are the two that came before.
Many people will tune in to see Noah’s hilarious perspective on American culture, common occurrences, and his fascinating upbringing in South Africa with his mother because it has been so long since we’ve had a new Trevor Noah comedy special to enjoy in the comfort of our own homes. Noah will also talk about his attempts to learn German, his frustrations with the state of modern communication, and his unwavering devotion to curry in this new programme. Noah himself teased the upcoming special on social media, showing himself performing but otherwise providing no details. David Paul Meyer, who has worked with Noah for over a decade and has been nominated for four Emmys, directed I Wish You Would.
Meyer directed the aforementioned Netflix specials, in addition to hundreds of episodes of The Daily Show and a number of other stand-up comedy specials. His substantial work on the satirical news talk programme earned him nominations for Emmy, DGA, and PGA. Despite the fact that he is best known for being the host of The Daily Show — and for maintaining a high standard after fan favourite Jon Stewart left in 2015 — Noah is also a successful author. His 2016 book Born a Crime was met with widespread acclaim upon its release, and an adaptation is currently in development, with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o attached to play Noah’s mother Patricia in the film. Six times in a row, Noah has been nominated for an Emmy, and he recently hosted the 63rd and 64th Grammys.
I Wish You Would make its streaming debut on Netflix on November 22.
