Eventually, viewers will have to say goodbye to Miriam “Midge” Maisel for good. With the upcoming 5th & final season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Rachel Brosnahan will no longer play the role of the struggling New York City comic trying to make it big. Alex Borstein, who also appeared in the show, posted several photos from backstage on Instagram just before curtain call, showing the cast and crew gathered for the last table read and a commemorative shot. Borstein prepares for the end with the final read, saying, “The final table read of @maiseltv hit me like a punch in the gut. And now we begin the countdown to our inevitable goodbyes.”
Borstein has been working alongside Brosnahan’s Maisel as her manager and friend Susie Myerson since the show’s 2017 premiere, helping her get to where she is in the comedy world and winning two Emmys in the process. One of the pictures shows her in her signature newsboy cap, laughing and smiling with her co-stars for the last time. The second group of photos focuses on creating a memento of the play that will be treasured not only by the cast but by the audience as a whole.
Midge, Susie, Abe, Rose, Joel, Moishe, and Shirley show Borstein, Brosnahan, and others around the Central Park bench honouring series creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. This park bench, appropriately named The Maisel Mench Bench, can be found near the intersection of The Mall and Literary Walk. Borstein vouchsafes the bench’s role in establishing the show’s enduring history by writing, It’s quite difficult to finally say goodbye. To honour our courageous leaders and establish a permanent gathering spot for our community, we have erected this bench. Friends, I’ll see you on the bench.
Season 5 will give Midge a fitting farewell, reuniting fans with series regulars like Milo Ventimiglia, Kelly Bishop, Alfie Fuller, Jason Ralph, and Reid Scott for one more time. Peter Friedman, Chlo Kerwin, Michael Cyril Creighton, Austin Basis, Josh Grisetti, Eddie Kaye Thomas, & Lucas Kavner will all return as series regulars.
