According to Deadline, Michelle Monaghan will be joining Mark Wahlberg in the action comedy The Family Plan. Apple Original Films and Skydance Media will produce the movie, which is still in the planning stages with no set release date. Most recently, Monaghan starred in the Netflix original series Echoes. Supporting appearances in films like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gone Baby Gone, and The Heartbreak Kid has brought her widespread recognition. Starring in critically acclaimed shows like True Detective, Messiah, and The Path is nothing new for her.
The actress has also appeared in other action films. She has made appearances in such blockbuster action movies as Mr. & Mrs Smith, The Bourne Supremacy, and several Mission: Impossible movies. Next up for Monaghan is the Prime Video feature Nanny, and she’ll also be appearing in the AppleTV+ series Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn and Jodie Turner-Smith. Both the specifics of Monaghan’s character and the movie’s premise are being kept secret for the time being.
However, rumours suggest the film will centre on Wahlberg as a man from a mysterious background who raises his family in the suburbs. He has started a new life, but everything comes tumbling down and he has to hide his family from his past. To portray Wahlberg’s wife, Monaghan is a near-certainty. Monaghan and Wahlberg are the only actors confirmed thus far. The film The Family Plan, written by David Coggeshall, will be directed by Simon Cellan Jones. Jones directed Wahlberg in their previous collaboration, the in-post-production picture Arthur the King. He has also directed episodes of several popular shows that have received high marks from critics, including Ballers, The Expanse, and See.
The first two episodes of the new Netflix thriller The Diplomat will also be directed by Jones. Coggeshall has written primarily on the horror genre, contributing to the TV show Scream and the recent smash hit film Orphan: First Kill. Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson will be producing The Family Plan for Municipal Pictures alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance.
