The new drama for the upcoming third season of Young Rock is being cooked up by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The sitcom depicts Johnson’s formative experiences and how they have shaped his personality. Young Rock is primarily autobiographical but does not feel bad about exaggerating a few scenes for dramatic effect. Its unconventional structure includes not just past versions of Johnson but also a “future” version of the star. The wrestling legend-turned-Hollywood star has released a new poster for the programme, giving fans a sneak peek at what to expect from the upcoming third season.
The graphic places Johnson, who provides the show’s narration for NBC, front and centre amongst his younger contemporaries in bright primary colours (brought to life by Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant and Uli Latukefu). Most notably, the young adult version of the Black Adam star (Latukefu) is shown as his WWE “The Rock” persona. He has the spotlight all to himself, swaggering around with a championship belt slung over his shoulder, flexing his biceps, and giving the audience Johnson’s trademark raised an eyebrow.
Joseph Lee Anderson, who plays the actor’s father, champion wrestler Rocky Johnson, also makes a notable cameo appearance. The ad also has a catchy slogan that promises huge things in the next third season. This is where the phrase “His dreams are coming true…BIG TIME” comes from. After posting the photo online, Johnson thanked his army of fans, called the concert a “surreal experience,” and reflected on how even his lowest times are now happy memories. In an Instagram post, he said, “This TV series continues to be the most strange experience of my career—as my crazy and unexpected life tales growing up in [a] society of brutal love.” “Today’s headlines and smiles are yesterday’s hardships.” The poster provides an overview of the teasers that have been released regarding the forthcoming season.
The second part of Young Rock ended on a cliffhanger when Johnson was defeated by Brayden Taft in the presidential election (Michael Torpey). Season three picks up a year after the events of season two, as future Rock attempts to re-enter the public eye. Additionally, fans are expected to see Johnson become the legendary “The Rock” character in the ring. Showrunners Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang discussed the first few episodes and where they pick up in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. A national catastrophe has arisen, and President Taft needs Dwayne’s assistance, Khan explained, so the actor has “kind of gone out of the public eye a little bit.” It’s as though he’s sucked back into the action.
Even while much information about the highly anticipated season has been kept under wraps, Chiang has let slip that because of Johnson’s candour, viewers can look forward to seeing some crucial “little tidbits” from the actor’s life adapted for the small screen. A more in-depth look into the life of the immensely acclaimed performer will focus on a few of his most significant career highlights and provide more nuanced insight into the minor moments. The upcoming season appears to have a lot of promising developments.
The third season of Young Rock premieres on NBC on November 4.
