The second season of the Fox animated comedy series Grimsburg has been ordered. The debut of the Jon Hamm-starring series has not yet occurred. Fox head of entertainment Michael Thorn reportedly made the remark, showing a lot of faith in the unaired series. From the early screenplays and show bible through the animatics and preliminary edits, everything about Grimsburg has convinced Thorn that they had a winner on their hands that will fit in perfectly with their animation style.
Fox has renewed both the upcoming animated series Krapopolis, based on Greek mythology and created by Dan Harmon, and the upcoming animated series Grimsburg, based on the Dan Harmon cartoon franchise, before any of them have ever premiered. In the animated series Grimsburg, voiced by Jon Hamm, the protagonist, the brilliant detective Marvin Flute, goes back to the mysterious village of Grimsburg in order to unravel a mystery much larger than the case of the cannibal clown he tracked down: himself. There he works on himself in an effort to make amends with the detectives he works with, the fiery ex-wife he still loves, and the mentally ill kid he never met.
The narrative, characters, and even some of the cast members are being kept under wraps for the time being. Following a long string of guest spots and supporting parts, Jon Hamm finally found his big break as the tormented 1960s advertising executive, Don Draper, on AMC’s Mad Men, for which he won widespread praise and a slew of prizes (including an Emmy and two Golden Globes). He went on to star in other box office hits after that, such as Bridesmaids, Baby Driver, and No Sudden Move. Hamm has recently starred in the critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful Confess, Fletch and the universally acclaimed and box financial smash Top Gun: Maverick.
In addition to starring in the upcoming dark comedy Maggie Moore(s) with Tina Fey under the direction of his Mad Men co-star John Slattery, he will also feature on season 3 of Apple’s The Morning Show and season 5 of FX’s Fargo. It was created by Catalan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel, who also act as the show’s executive producers. The animated series will be showrun and executive produced by Chadd Gindlin. Hamm, Gail Berman, Hend Baghdady of The Jackal Group, and Connie Tavel serve as executive producers. Ginsburg’s animation studio is Bento Box, which also creates Bob’s Burgers, Central Park, and The Great North. The release of Grimsburg will likely occur in 2023.
