Deadline reports that Will Patton has joined the massive ensemble of Kevin Costner’s forthcoming epic western picture, Horizon. With this film, the actor will be working with Costner for the fourth time, after their work together on No Way Out, Costner’s directorial film The Postman, and the popular television series Yellowstone. Patton has joined the already confirmed cast, which includes Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), and Jena Malone (although his character has not yet been revealed) (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).
Among the many other actors in the impending epic are Alejandro Edda (Narcos: Mexico), Tatanka Means (Killer of the Flower Moon), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan). There has been no formal announcement regarding the cast members’ roles. Since filming hasn’t wrapped yet, many specifics of the Horizon are unknown. It is believed that Horizon will take place in the 15 years before and following the American Civil War. The film’s tagline is as follows: “Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements, to interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.”
Horizon has a huge ensemble cast of excellent performers, a potentially intriguing plot, and a competent director at the helm, so it’s looking like it may be a promising Western entry.
Patton will also be featured in You Can’t Win, a drama film directed by Robinson Devor, which is scheduled for release around the same time as Horizon. His most recent film roles include Blumhouse’s Halloween trilogy and the upcoming IT. Some of Patton’s other recent works are the science fiction Western series Outer Range and the 2021 film The Forever Purge. After the critically acclaimed Open Range in 2003, Costner returns to director with Horizon.
Dances With Wolves, a film he directed and starred in, won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1990 and made him a household name. Horizon is an anticipated film that Kevin Costner will direct, act in, co-write the screenplay for with Jon Baird, and produce through his company, Territory Pictures. Given that Costner is resuming the director’s chair for a genre in which he has a track record, the upcoming release of Horizon in the genre of historical drama might be one to look forward to. No official release date has been given for Horizon as of yet since work is still ongoing.
