According to Deadline, CBS is developing a multi-camera comedy starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. as father and son. Wayans and Kevin Hench are the creators of the unnamed series (Last Man Standing). Poppa, played by Wayans, is a renowned talk radio presenter who is also happily divorced, and he serves as the comedic protagonist of the film. It gets comical when he has to force his grown son, played by Wayans Jr., to grow up before he is 40, despite the fact that the younger Wayans has inherited all of his charms and none of his work ethic. Already, the concept seems promising, what with the father-son comedy coupling being awaited for over a decade. After co-creating, executive producing, and starring in the critically acclaimed ABC sitcom My Wife and Kids for five seasons (2001–2005), this is Wayans’ first big comeback to a written comedy series.
Wayans Jr. also made his television acting debut in a recurring role on this show. Following his success on the multi-camera sitcom Bosom Buddies, Wayans Jr. went on to appear in the single-camera comedy New Girl and Happy Endings. He also starred in Happy Together, a one-season CBS sitcom that showed audiences just how hilarious the dynamic between a father and son can be. In an episode titled “Like Father, Like Son,” Wayans guest appeared as his son Wayans Jr. The brilliant and inventive sketch series In Living Color, which Wayans co-created and performed in, earned him four Emmy nominations and a devoted fan base. Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, and others were among the many well-known comics and actors who made guest appearances on the show.
A Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series was also awarded to the show. Recently, he played Roger Murtaugh in Fox’s buddy police action comedy-drama Lethal Weapon alongside co-lead Clayne Crawford as Martin Riggs, Keesha Sharp, and Kevin Rahm. Along with Pam Grier, Hailey Kilgore, David Iacono, and others, he will soon be featured in the Tubi noir thriller Cinnamon. In addition to their work together in Happy Together, Wayans and Wayans Jr. acted as father and son in the comedy series Happy Endings. Wayans Jr. also had an appearance on his dad’s sketch show, The Underground, which aired on Showtime. Supercool, Cherry and Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and Let’s Be Cops are just a few of the movies in which he also appeared.
He just finished shooting Netflix’s Players and is an EP on the forthcoming drama series Glamorous, which stars Ben J. Pierce as a gender-nonconforming gay young man struggling to figure out what he wants out of life. There have been no more series announcements as of yet.
