An image from behind the scenes of Dwayne Johnson’s DC antihero movie Black Adam reveals the return of another Peacemaker character. The film is set for release in less than a week. Among Viola Davis’s agents that served in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker is Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt, as revealed by the official DCEU Twitter account. During the events of The Suicide Squad, Harcourt is one of the renegade operatives who are punished by Waller for aiding Task Force X in its fight against Starro. Since their squad is trying to stop an extraterrestrial invasion, she has to babysit the film’s antihero (John Cena) while they work.
While it was already known that Amanda Waller will appear in Black Adam, Holland’s presence on-site only serves to further cement the film’s connection to the DCEU. From his humble beginnings as a slave in Ancient Egypt, Black Adam’s protagonist, Teth-Adam, eventually obtains the gods’ abilities and utilises them to combat crime. Nonetheless, Teth-Adam is at odds with the other vigilantes due to his warped and brutal concept of justice. Thus, in the forthcoming film, Black Adam will be pitted against the Justice Society of America. We first assumed the film would serve as a prologue to the DCEU since, in DC Comics canon, the JSA is a superteam that comes before the Justice League.
We now know that Amanda Waller and Harcourt show up in Black Adam because the story takes place after Justice League. With Johnson having previously hinted at Superman’s return, there will undoubtedly be many more shocks in store when Black Adam eventually hits cinemas. Behind-the-scenes photo shows Holland with Justice Society of America members Aldis Hodge (Hawkman) and Pierce Brosnan (Doctor Fate). Noah Centineo, as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell, as Cyclone, round out the super squad. All of these characters might possibly return for additional films and TV series in the future, as Black Adam is the first component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s 10-year plan to integrate all productions under a single banner.
On October 21, 2018, Black Adam will premiere in cinemas.
