Captain Michael Burnham declares, “Let’s fly,” in the brand-new Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 teaser trailer and boy does this first glimpse have us flying. The first clip from Discovery’s fifth season, which was unveiled today at the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic-Con, promises Michael and her crew the craziest trip yet.
Sonequa Martin-Green, who is now filming Season 5 in Toronto, attended the panel today electronically to deliver the new teaser from her captain’s chair. Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, and executive producer Rod Roddenberry were also there. Wisdom from David Cronenberg At the beginning of the new clip, Doctor Kovich asks Michael, “The greatest treasure in the known galaxy is out there, what are you waiting for?” The crew of the Discovery continues to explore the unpredictable and frequently hazardous future they have found themselves in for the next minute.
While the teaser doesn’t reveal much about the narrative, it is packed with both personal and explosive scenes, including Michael flying over a desert planet on a virtual space motorbike and the ongoing romance between Saru and T’Rina. A couple more significant characters from the forthcoming season are also introduced in the new video. Battlestar Galactica’s Callum may have been seen by keen-eyed science fiction lovers.
In the new clip, Keith Rennie is dressed in a Starfleet uniform. Captain Rayner is played by Rennie, who joins the cast as a series regular. “He doesn’t do pleasantries” and “collaboration is not his strong suit,” according to the description of this person, who is more at ease when there is conflict and fighting than when there is calm. Although he has a gruff exterior, he appears to have a strong moral sense and the ability to learn for the sake of society, “but it won’t be easy.” The characters Moll and L’ak, who are respectively portrayed by Eve Harlow from The 100 and Elias Toufexis from Shadowhunters, are also shown in the trailer. Both of them were formerly couriers like Book before becoming criminals. “Highly bright and dangerous, with a remarkable strategic mind and a quick wit,” is how Moll is described.
L’ak is said to be nearly totally devoted to her, making him extremely deadly if he poses a threat to Moll. The two are about to engage in combat with Michael and her team as they clash, maybe for the alleged biggest treasure in the cosmos. Overall, the new teaser suggests that the upcoming season of Discovery may be the most entertaining one since Captain Pike was introduced in Season 2. While Season 4 was mostly focused on the severity of sadness and our intense desire for empathy in times of such tragedy, there is a strong undercurrent of joy that had seemed to lay dormant for a while.
Along with returning cast members Doug Jones, Mary Wiseman, David Ajala, and Blu del Barrio, Season 5 stars Martin-Green, Rapp, Cruz, Rennie, Harlow, and Toufexis. The release date for Season 5 of Discovery is still unknown, however, we can probably anticipate it to happen after the February 16, 2023 broadcast of Star Trek: Picard Season 3.
