According to Bloody Disgusting, one of the most intriguing new horror films of the year will soon be available digitally. By October 25, the terrifying film Barbarian, written and directed by Zach Cregger, will be available for purchase on all significant digital platforms and in 4K Ultra HD, just in time for your Halloween movie marathon. The disc also contains additional features like behind-the-scenes extras and previously unreleased supplemental video.
Cregger’s first horror film sparked curiosity before it hit theatres with a suspenseful trailer that was packed with well-known clichés and jump scares.
Audiences are familiar with features like a double-booked Airbnb, an enigmatic stranger, and an ominous cellar, but early reviews have the internet buzzing. The tone shifts and turns Barbarian takes are not hinted at in the trailer alone, so you need to watch it again or a third time to really understand the mayhem that results. This October, 20th Century Studios and New Regency will release this brand-new Halloween classic on digital platforms. We briefly see some behind-the-scenes footage with main actress Georgina Campbell, as well as Justin Long and Bill Skarsgrd, in the exclusive featurette segment. Cregger discusses the value of casting for movies in general and this particular movie in particular.
The director explains that Skarsgrd’s dual “attractive and off-putting” personality made him the ideal choice for the role he portrays in Barbarian and if you know you know. Barbarian begins with Tess (Campbell) discovering that the key is stolen when she arrives at her reserved rental property in Detroit late one stormy night. Even though it was upsetting, it now appears that the incident could have been the best thing to occur on her business trip because when Keith (Skarsgrd) answers the door, their horrific journey starts. Tess decides to spend the night rather than politely refuse and leave.
She quickly discovers, however, that this mansion may have more problems than just the threat posed by strangers. Fans will receive the exclusive featurette in full with the digital release, along with deleted sequences that appear to elaborate more on Tess and Nick’s tumultuous relationship that we only got glimpses of and more on the house’s… past residents.
