Get ready to rearrange your schedule for seeing movies. Disney has made many adjustments to the Marvel Cinematic Universe release plan, including moving the launch date of Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four picture from November 8, 2024, to February 14, 2025. The Fantastic Four film’s new release date follows those of a number of other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, including Mahershala Ali’s Blade, in which the iconic vampire hunter makes his debut in the superhero film franchise, Deadpool 3, in which Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman make their MCU debuts, and Avengers: Secret Wars, which concludes the Multiverse Saga.
This will be the third movie adaptation of the Fantastic Four, following the 2005 and 2007 films starring Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Michael Chiklis as The Thing, and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch. In 2015, a new film starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell was released, however, it was met with mixed reviews from reviewers. DC, Marvel’s eternal competitor, has also seen significant adjustments to its content pipeline, with those alterations affecting the company’s own cape-wearing film franchises. Shazam! : Fury of the Gods, the sequel to the 2019 film starring Zachary Levi as the title character, was pushed back four months from its initial holiday season release date of December 21, 2022, to March 17, 2023.
This was done so that audiences wouldn’t have to wait until Christmas Day, December 25, 2023, to see James Wan’s Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which had its March 17 release date pushed back to accommodate its delay. Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace, was also abruptly cancelled, which caused a lot of uproars. Even if the next superhero movie starring the gang could be a few years away, we do know some of the people that have been linked to the production.
After Jon Watts, director of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man trilogy, left the project, the aforementioned Matt Shakman, Director of Disney+’s WandaVision, will take over as the film’s director. Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer will also be contributing to the script. Kevin Feige, the man in charge of the MCU, will be involved with the project as a producer. While John Krasinski appeared as Mr Fantastic in this year’s Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness, it has not yet been revealed whether or not he will reprise the role, nor has the rest of the Fantastic Four been cast. The launch date for Fantastic Four has been delayed to February 14, 2025.
