Jamie Clayton (Sense8, The L Word: Generation Q) is a patient saint in addition to being a fantastic performer. A new film shows how the actress was painstakingly transformed into the Hell Priestess/Pinhead character from the Hellraiser series. Clayton reveals that creating Pinhead’s signature appearance takes a staggering four hours, which may be just as unpleasant as the images exhibited by the vicious Cenobites. She also mentions that after a long day of filming, it might take up to an hour to remove everything.
She goes on to say that the suit is “extremely heavy” and “quite tight and restricting,” and that daily maintenance includes attaching a large number of prosthesis. Clayton is so impressed by the final effect that she uses the word “beautiful” to describe the work the makeup and prosthetics crew did in her role. Clayton can be seen joking and conversing with the unsung heroes who bring her persona to scary life as a timelapse of the procedure plays out during the documentary. David Bruckner’s (The Night House) version of Hellraiser, a semi-reboot of the novel turned-1987 picture initially directed by horror mastermind Clive Barker, is now streaming on Hulu.
Bruckner took a different approach than Barker and wrote his own narrative set in the Hellraiser universe. The bonds of friendship and family, dependency, and remorse are highlighted in this instalment. There are new forms of torture waiting around every corner for our favourite Cenobites, who have returned. Odessa A’zion, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, Aoife Hinds, Adam Faison, and Goran Visnjic also star in the film with Clayton.
Since its recent release on the service, the feature has generated much discussion and earned mixed reactions from longstanding fans of the game.
Many people who hadn’t seen the sadistic 1980s picture before decided to see the remake and give the Lament Configuration a shot. Streaming service SCREAMBOX has capitalised on the renewed interest in the Hellraiser franchise by releasing a documentary on the series’ origins titled Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II.
