He’s not only blessed with punk vigour but the luck of the Irish as well. This week’s host, Brendan Gleeson, was featured in a new promotional video for Saturday Night Live, which will air this Saturday. Gleeson, who is hosting the programme to promote his new feature The Banshees of Inisherin, offered us a glimpse into some of the antics he has been up to behind the scenes of the renowned SNL studios, including some pretty sick kickflips, in the new promotional video. This week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” will run at 11:30 PM ET/ 8:30 PM PT this coming Saturday. Today’s release of a new promotional video features Brendan Gleeson skating like never before.
Skate video mainstay, Gleeson skates about the studio while evading a frazzled security guard and acting for the fish-eye lens camera. Gleeson’s trademark rough tone came through as he stated, “Oh we were shreddin’ it.” The guard, played by SNL rookie Molly Kearney, is understandably taken aback when Gleeson spits out a genuine nasty “up your copper” before executing a terrific kickflip right in front of her. Then, in an act of defiance befitting the rogue actor, he spray-painted a “no skateboarding” sign that had been posted.
Gleeson’s career has included a wide variety of parts, from humorous to sad, so this is an intriguing new persona for him to explore.
Gleeson is best known for his performances as Alastor Moody in the Harry Potter films and Ken in the criminal comedy In Bruges (2008). Gleeson is presently promoting his newest film, The Banshees of Inisherin, directed by Martin McDonagh. Gleeson is reuniting with his co-star from In Bruges, Colin Farrell, as well as the film’s director, Martin McDonagh, for this new feature. The world premiere of the picture took place in September at the Venice Film Festival. On this week’s episode of SNL, Willow will perform with Gleeson. Willow, daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, is now touring in support of her new album, Coping Mechanism.
For all we know, this week’s show might be full of mayhem. Bisexual Buff Grimace may or may not return to the world-famous studio stage. It’s possible that Gleeson may reprise his punk, skateboarder identity in the upcoming episode.
Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 PM ET/ 8:30 PM PT if you must know.
