Bumper (Adam Devine) from Pitch Perfect is back, and he’s ready to blow your mind with his heavenly singing. Before the premiere of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin on Peacock, the first series in the musical franchise, the lead character, Bumper, releases his finest mashup to date. In the preview, we see Bumper, who isn’t very tech-savvy, preparing his camera for his performance and then breaking into an acapella rendition of songs by Nena (“99 Luftballoons”) and A-ha (“Take On Me”). The fan-favourite figure sings the first verse of the pop star’s legendary bouncing song in German, his voice providing his own interpretation of the signature synth line.
With a crescendo of Bumper’s drumming, the song merges with the timeless hymn of the ’80s. Bumper explodes into one catchy song, delivering a fantastic performance that will make him an instant hit in Berlin and launch him into the series. Flula Borg, who played Pieter Krämer in Pitch Perfect 2, and Jameela Jamil, who played Pieter’s ex and Bumper’s adversary, Gisela, will be joining Bumper in his new life overseas. Other newcomers include Lera Abova, who plays a famous DJ and happens to be Pieter’s sister, Thea Krämer, and Sarah Hyland, who is Bumper and Pieter’s timid American assistant who has her own secret aspirations of becoming a singer.
In a series of photographs released last week, we got a glimpse of the positive vibes that both the new and returning characters will bring to the Pitch Perfect world. Elizabeth Banks, who directed Pitch Perfect 2 and produced all three Pitch Perfect movies, will be involved with the plot again as an executive producer. Banks praised the project’s ensemble in a statement, calling them “the most incredible and funny collection of individuals,” and noting that “it’s been so great seeing Adam Devine grow as an actor and artist” throughout the course of the franchise’s ten-plus-year run.
She gushed about the series’ new cast members and the Borg’s return, who happens to be a local of Berlin and so a perfect fit for the show. Todd Strauss-Schulson, Richie Keen, and Maureen Bharoocha direct episodes alongside showrunner Megan Amram (The Good Place). Banks, Strauss-Schulson, and Keen will executive produce together with Devine, Max Handelman, Paul Brooks, and Scott Neimeyer. If you’re looking to get caught up before the next part of Pitch Perfect projects, you can see the first two films in the series, Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, for free right now on Peacock. Start tuning in to Peacock on November 23 for the premiere of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.
