The major news that Glenn Caron announced on October 3 is no longer a tease. On Twitter on October 5th, he revealed that Moonlighting was “getting ready for streaming” and will be available on a streaming service. Since Caron hinted in the tweet that he and Disney had collaborated and developed a strategy, many have assumed that a new season of Moonlighting is in the works. Fans, however, are ecstatic at the news that he intends to put the series on a streaming service, with some expressing that the programme had a significant effect on them and that they are looking forward to viewing it again. There are “plenty of moving elements” and “it might take quite a time” because of how “ambitious” the project is. I wanted you [the fans] to know first,” Carron said. The DVD sets of Moonlighting have long since gone out of the press, and there is now no way to watch the series online or get a physical copy.
It’s possible that the delay is related to the difficulty of obtaining the necessary permissions to use the music. Carron stated that he was told by Disney execs in a March interview with The Wrap that “There’s a lot of music in the programme. Disney and Carron agree that it would be too expensive to go out and get these rights at this time.” Carron stopped talking to Disney after they tried to encourage him to change the tunes to more economically licenced ones. As things stand, though, music licences appear to be no longer a problem.
Cybill Shepherd starred as former model Maddie Hayes in the ABC dramedy series Moonlighting, which ran from 1985 to 1989. Hayes ran into some financial trouble when her accountant stole from her. Some failed enterprises, like the City of Angels Detective Agency run by Bruce Willis’s David Addison Jr., are all she has left to show for her life. David talks Maddie out of selling the company, and now the two of them operate it together. Since Maddie is most known for being the spokeswoman for Blue Moon shampoo, the firm is renamed Blue Moon Detective Agency in Moonlighting to reflect her newfound fame as a private investigator.
Shepherd was reintroduced to the public eye, and Bruce Willis was introduced to them for the first time (which ultimately led to his being cast in Die Hard) because of this series. There is currently no word on when or where the series will be available to stream.
