According to Deadline, the teaser for Yellowstone season five broke all previous marks set by trailers. Within the first day after its release on September 29th, the season 5 teaser has amassed an incredible 14.4 million views and 1.7 million other engagements. Even more impressive is the fact that the show’s trailer was the most-viewed video on both TikTok and Facebook on September 29th, with over 190,000 total views, and that it was discussed over 30,000 times across multiple social media platforms.
Usually, networks don’t reveal viewership numbers until after a show or movie has debuted, but Paramount’s decision to do so for a trailer bodes well for the show’s future success. When compared to the season 4 trailer, the season 5 trailer for Yellowstone had three times as many views, six times as many interactions, and four times as many social media mentions. Fans are, without a doubt, quite interested in what will happen to the Duttons next. John Dutton is sworn in as Governor of Montana at the beginning of the trailer, and he makes a solemn oath to defend the state from “all kinds of adversaries, foreign and domestic.” To ensure a strong political and familial relationship, after John’s inauguration he dismisses everyone in the office and nominates his daughter Beth to be Chief-of-Staff.
As the trailer progresses, tensions rise as the Dutton family’s authority is tested, a document that appears to be a declaration of war is signed, and fighting and shooting ensued. There will be plenty of difficulties for John to overcome in his new position as governor. After all, the Duttons’ idyllic ranch lifestyle is very different from the fast-paced world of politics. Taylor Sheridan and John Linson created Yellowstone for MTV Entertainment. Luke Grimes, Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, West Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, and Gil Birmingham are all featured in the fifth season.
It tells the story of the fictitious Dutton family as they establish themselves on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, focusing on the difficulties faced by patriarch John Dutton as he and his family face persistent threats from those who wish to take over his land. The prequel series Yellowstone: 1923 will debut on Paramount+ in December. The spin-off series Yellowstone: 1883 also exists. Both works by Taylor Sheridan focus on the ancestors of the modern-day Dutton family. The launch of Yellowstone Season 5 will air on Paramount Network on November 13th, 2018. The premiere will last for two hours, and subsequent episodes will drop every week.
