The trailer for the upcoming Blumhouse horror thriller Run Sweetheart Run has been released exclusively on Prime Video, and it does not look good for Ella Balinska. She portrays Cherie, a single mother who meets and falls in love with Ethan, a gorgeous and charming business magnate who is one of her firm’s most important clients (Pilou Asbaek). She is so impressed by him that she offers to spend the night with him. Once they are alone, though, he shows his true colours. The trailer presents the film as a corny Hallmark movie at first, with Cherie snatching Ethan away from her coworkers in order to win his heart. They spend a great night together eating sushi, mingling at a party, and retiring to Ethan’s apartment.
But as soon as the Blumhouse emblem appears, the other shoe drops, and a terrified Cherie bolts from Ethan’s home, covered in blood. Ethan isn’t the nice guy he presented himself to be; he’s actually a murderer who wants to play The Most Dangerous Game with Cherie. Because of his almost superhuman ability to appear out of thin air and follow a female prey’s scent, he is virtually a supernatural creature. Even so, if she makes it through the night, she can go. Everything points to Ethan having a wealth of expertise in the pursuit of females. Cherie, on the other hand, isn’t the kind to back down easily. She goes from a shoeless victim running down the street to a suited, headband-wearing fighter thanks to the training she receives from another survivor of his game.
She tries to outrun the monster and even attacks him, but the trailer’s climax suggests that Ethan is a horrible beast with a penchant for blood. Once Run Sweetheart Run had its international debut at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, it was put on the back burner for quite some time. Its festival run was cut short, and its theatrical distribution was scrapped altogether, once the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Amazon purchased it in May of 2020 with the intention of distributing it on Prime Video, but they have been sitting on it until now. With a 73% Rotten Tomatoes score, its limited time in front of festivalgoers was nonetheless successful.
The film is written & directed by Shana Feste (Dirty Diana, Endless Love), with additional scripting by Keith Josef Adkins and Kellee Terrell. Co-producers were Effie T. Brown, Jason Blum, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, in addition to Feste. Balinska and Asbk are joined by an impressive supporting ensemble that includes Shohreh Aghdashloo, Clark Gregg, Dayo Okeniyi, and Betsy Brandt.
On October 28th, the Amazon Prime Video debut of Run Sweetheart Run will occur.
