Keanu Reeves is one of the biggest stars in the world who hasn’t played a superhero for Marvel or DC. For a long time, fans have anticipated that the Matrix actor will make a cameo in a superhero movie. Many speculations have circulated about him potentially joining one franchise or another. As near as he’s been to a superhero role is providing Batman’s voice in League of Superpets. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new comic book Brzrkr, he let the audience in on his secret desire to portray a certain Marvel hero. It has been announced that Reeves’ superhero comic Brzrkr, which follows an eternal warrior as he fights throughout time and space, would be made into both an anime and a live-action picture starring the actor.
In response to Kimmel’s inquiry as to whether he was once a comic book nerd, he responded, “I might have lost my nerd card as I grew older, but when I was younger, I was really nerdy with comics.” Kimmel responds, “I believe though is like when you are a child, you are a comic book geek, but when you are 50, and you are into comics books, you are a nerd.” When pressed further, Keanu finally said, “Alright, am!” I’m going to embrace my inner nerd. In addition, when Kimmel asked Reeves which Marvel superhero he wished he could be, Reeves answered, “10-year-old me would want to — I think he’d probably want to be Ghost Rider.” Kevin Feige, CEO of Marvel Studios, has confirmed many conversations with the actor regarding a prospective role in the MCU and stated that the company is still trying to “find out the perfect manner” for his introduction. Reeves enjoyed the inclusion of Marvel films and remarked, “It’s pretty great. In my opinion, the evolution and success of the Marvel film franchise are nothing short of fantastic, and it would be an honour to contribute to it in any way I could.
Fans have long imagined the 58-year-old actor playing Ghost Rider because of his tough-guy persona and affinity for leather jackets and motorcycles. Reeves’s confirmation that he wants to play the role will likely come as a relief to many who have long rooted for him to do so. Ryan Gosling and Norman Reedus, among others, have shown an interest in playing the Marvel hero recently. Reeves would be a fantastic choice to replace Nicolas Cage in the role of Ghost Rider, who he played in two live-action films.
In the meanwhile, you can see Reeves in John Wick 4.
