The next film in the Planet of the Apes series, titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and its cast members were unveiled last week. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the “Kingdom” has expanded once more. Eka Darville, formerly of Jessica Jones, is the newest addition. Beginning with the 1968 film starring Charlton Heston and adapted from Pierre Boulle’s novel of the same name, the Planet of the Apes film series has been a box office success. The original was released in 1985, and since then there have been several sequels and remakes.
It takes place on an alternative Earth, where primates have become the dominant species after a catastrophic event. The storyline of Planet of the Apes: Kingdom is presently being kept secret. It has been confirmed, however, that it will take place in the same continuity as the Andy Serkis movie, which concluded with War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. Reportedly picking up some years after the events of the first film, it will once again follow the same group of technologically sophisticated apes. Darville’s exact job is presently under wraps. Australian-born actor Darville first gained recognition in shows like Sparticus and Power Rangers R.P.M., as well as the local teen drama Blue Water High.
More recently, he has starred in shows like Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix and made guest appearances on shows like The Originals and Tell Me a Story. His cinematic credits include Bernard and Huey, Mr Pip, and The Sapphires. In addition to Owen Teague (It), Freya Allen (The Witcher), and Peter Macon, the cast also includes Darville (The Orville). Wes Ball, who helmed the Maze Runner films, will helm the next remake of Planet of the Apes based on a scenario by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison. Peter Chernin and JennoTopping are on board as executive producers, and Jaffa, Silver, Joe Hartwick Jr., and Jason Reed are listed as producers. When the film’s title was unveiled last week, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell hinted at a new era for the franchise.
We are honoured to carry on the series’ legacy of inventive, thought-provoking filmmaking with Wes’ great vision for this new chapter in 2024’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
It is anticipated that the release of the film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will occur in theatres sometime in 2024.
