It’s almost the holiday season, so it’s time to start thinking about decorating for the season. Universal Pictures is releasing yet another Christmas film just in time for you to start making your plans. While you celebrate the season of goodwill, Violent Night ushers in a chilling dose of holiday dread. This new take on the holiday film genre, starring David Harbour, will hit theatres in just a few short months, and the trailer is here to get you excited. To kick off the gift-giving in the trailer, Santa Harbour drinks heavily. This year’s Christmas has special meaning for one family, and the girl has a unique connection to the man in red. It seems impossible that anything could go wrong for such a lovely duo.
The trailer for the film promises tension and action, yet practically nothing happens. As a result, Santa is transformed into an unintentional action hero as he is drawn into the evening’s drama. After all, nothing says “Merry Christmas!” like a little bit of muscle and a sprinkle of magic. The teaser reveals that, despite the film’s gory tone, Harbour provides some much-needed comic relief as he helps defend the film’s principal family from evildoers. Even while it has all the typical features of a Christmas film, it also depicts the darker side of the season.
Santa’s punishments for individuals on the naughty list are detailed in the trailer, and they don’t stop with coal. An affluent family’s Christmas celebrations are ruined when mercenaries steal into their estate in Violent Night. In addition to the family’s surprise at being held prisoner by mercenaries, the mercenaries have their own to look forward to Santa Claus. Santa interrupts his evening plans to come to the rescue of the family, and the audience is warned that “he’s going to prove why this Nick is no saint.” Movies like Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and more have all come out of 87North, the production company behind this film. Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) is directed from a script written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog).
Marc S. Fischer serves as an executive producer, and Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, and Guy Danella of 87North serve as producers. All regions will be distributed by Universal Pictures. John Leguizamo, Cam Gigandet, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, and Beverly D’Angelo are also in the cast. As of Tuesday, December 2, you can only see the premiere of Violent Night in cinemas. Check out the screening on Friday, October 7 if you’ll be at New York Comic Con.
