As per The Hollywood Reporter, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Harden’s production firm Hello Sunshine is working with Build-A-Bear Entertainment on a new take on the classic children’s fable Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The film is being billed as a fresh twist on the traditional narrative, with the heroine being a “strong woman.” Goldilocks & the Three Bears is a classic British fairy tale with countless variations. It follows a young girl named Goldilocks who gets lost in the woods and finds herself at the home of three bears: Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear. She tries every chair, eats all the porridge, and sleeps in every bed before declaring that she is too exhausted to leave their house.
It will be interesting to watch how the young Goldilocks and the three bears are reimagined in the new film geared for a younger audience. While Build-A-Bear has created numerous full-length films, including Honey Girls, Deliver By Christmas, and Christmas CEO, this is the first feature-length video produced by Hello Sunshine’s kids and animation business. When asked about the studio’s anticipation for the first-ever partnership, Hello Sunshine’s Claire Curley said they are thrilled “to provide a new perspective to such a timeless narrative that we know will inspire young viewers.” In recent years, there has been a call for retellings of traditional fairy tales updated to reflect today’s world.
Several upcoming movies, such as Halle Bailey’s The Little Mermaid and Disney’s Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, promise to be progressive because of their inclusive casting and unique takes on classic tales. The story of Goldilocks has been retold in countless ways, from literary works to animated films. Sharon Price John, president and CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop, commented on the idea, saying, “You could feel the magnetic creativity in the air from our early discussion about the concept.”
Reese Witherspoon has time and again demonstrated her ability to bring brilliant individuals together and bring out the best in them, so we are happy to join with Hello Sunshine and Reese. Goldilocks and the Three Bears will be executive produced by Witherspoon, Build-A-Sharon Bear’s Price John, and Foundation Media Partners’ Patrick Hughes, as well as Hello Sunshine’s head of kids and animation, Curley.
Currently, we know very little about the film.
