Forthcoming cannibal horror flick Bones & All stars heartthrob Timothee Chalamet, who will shatter your heart before devouring it. MGM has published a new official trailer for the picture, and it looks like it will be a twisted yet weirdly sweet coming-of-age tale.
As the trailer begins, adolescent Maren (Taylor Russell) and her new buddy are at a sleepover, painting their nails and chilling out. Maren grabs her friend’s hand in an apparent personal gesture as they sleep close to one other, and then she chews off her finger.
An uproar ensues as her companion yells and attempts to fight off Maren, but the latter escapes via the front door. Later in the teaser, we see Maren attempting to control her cravings for human flesh, just before she meets Lee, a young serial killer who falls in love with her and shares her fondness for cannibalism (played by Timothee Chalamet). The trailer concludes with a scene showing Maren and Lee on the run throughout Reagan-era America as they evade the cops and pounce on their victims.
Another cannibal, an elderly guy named Sully (Mark Rylance), who can detect the scent of fresh flesh from nearly half a mile away, appears to cross paths with them. A threatening warning from Sully can be heard in the trailer: “I came seeking for you. In other words, I picked up your scent. And I have regulations: “Never eat another eater. Ever.” The film is a romantic horror drama inspired by Camille DeAngelis’s novel of the same name. Luca Guadagnino, an Italian filmmaker, has directed several films in the niche genre of blood romance before.
These include Suspiria, Call Me by Your Name, and I Am Love. Chalamet, Russell, Michael Stahlberg, Chlo Sevigny, and Jessica Harper feature in the picture, which was directed by Guadagnino and co-produced by Kajganich and Spears. The majority of the supporting cast has worked with Guadagnino before, with several of them appearing in many of his films. Other films besides Bones and All also tackle the uncomfortable subject of cannibalism on the big screen. Raw (2016), The Green Inferno (2013), and Silence of the Lambs (1992) have received both acclaim and harsh criticism for their depictions of violence and gore. Bones and All is the latest entry in a genre that is notoriously fraught with danger and is not for the faint of heart. It’s too soon to know how well accepted it will be, but it does have a brilliant cast that bodes well for a strong showing.
On November 23rd, audiences will be able to see Bones and All in cinemas.
