In the second season of Netflix’s mysterious epic Enola Holmes, Louis Partridge teases an exciting new transition for Tewkesbury. Millie Bobby Brown, a breakout star of Netflix’s Stranger Things, plays the title character, a younger and slightly cooler sister to Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman’s Mycroft Holmes (Sam Claflin). After learning that their mother has disappeared, Enola sets off on her own trip of sleuthing supremacy, where she hopes to find her mother, aid the young Lord Tewkesbury she encounters along the way, and outsmart her brothers in the process. Partridge has teased that the sequel will see him coming into his own as an actor.
He made these remarks in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: “He’s taking a more prominent role in society and taking on greater responsibilities. It’s great to watch him grow from the nincompoop he is referred to as so much in the first film.” If Tewkesbury is successful in filling his father’s seat in the House of Lords, he will have enough opportunity to finally shed his less-than-savoury appellation. Enola embarks on a mission to aid a little girl in locating her missing sister as she strives to prove herself a detective in her own right and worthy of the Holmes name.
As her travels bring her to London, she finds herself in need of Tewkesbury’s assistance. The difficulty the Holmes family appears to have in working together effectively will likely be explored as a major plot point. Director Harry Bradbeer, who is reprising his role here, has remarked that the film would emphasise the value of friendship and the realisation that “you are stronger with others than you are on your own.” As previously announced, in addition to Partridge and Brown, we will be seeing a comeback performance from Cavill as Enola’s renowned brother Sherlock, and a return performance from Helena Bonham Carter as their mother Eudoria.
Also slated to show up in the Netflix original are Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Adeel Akhtar, and David Thewlis. Based on the novels of Nancy Springer, a new film named Enola Holmes: Mycroft’s Dangerous Game will be added to the growing canon of Nancy Springer adaptations. The graphic novel serves to bridge the gap between the first two films in Netflix’s Enola Holmes world and is set within that realm. The book’s summary promises more “classic Holmes action,” this time with Enola on a quest to stop another “nefarious conspiracy.”
The summary goes as follows: “After her brother, Mycroft is abducted by a shadowy organisation of anarchists, Enola investigates his abduction in the hopes of rescuing him and reclaiming something valuable he took from her.” It appears that the next several months will provide admirers of Enola Holmes with an abundance of mystery and insanity.
Release dates for Enola Holmes: Mycroft’s Dangerous Games are October 11 and November 4, respectively, while the second instalment of the series will be available on Netflix on November 4.
