According to Deadline, Theo Rossi has joined the cast of Netflix’s Carry On alongside Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton. Aside from Danielle Deadwyler, who became a breakout actress in Harder They Fall, the film had already cast Sofia Carson (Purple Heart). In Carry On, we follow young TSA employee Ethan Kopek as he is blackmailed by an anonymous passenger into allowing a potentially lethal item to board an aircraft on Christmas Day.
Jaume Collet-Serra, a Spanish-American director, is in charge of directing the feature picture, which was written by TJ Fixman (Ratchet & Clank, Popeye) and then revised by Michael Green (Kings, Blade Runner 2049). Carson, who not only appeared in but also served as executive producer on Purple Heart and co-wrote and performed the film’s original soundtrack, was recently hired to the Netflix team, continuing the company’s trend of hiring from inside. Rossi has a lengthy history with Netflix as well, having played in the short series True Story starring Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes last year, as well as in Marvel’s Luke Cage and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.
Rossi’s recent portrayal as Youcef in Emily the Criminal, starring Aubrey Plaza, was met with widespread acclaim from critics. The film, directed by John Patton Ford, had its world debut at Sundance earlier this year and has since been receiving award nomination buzz. Since it was released in theatres in August, the film has received 166 reviews from critics, bringing its score to an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. His previous works include American Skin (also directed by Parker) and the breakout role of Juice on the critically acclaimed FX series Sons of Anarchy.
Bateman has just finished his season of Ozarks on the streaming service, and Harder They Fall breakthrough actress Danielle Deadwyler has been the subject of considerable award talk for her performance in Chinonye Chukwu’s Till. Famous for his roles in films like The Kingsman, Rocketman, and Black Bird, among others, Egerton has amassed a considerable fan base. Netflix is currently developing a thrilling thriller with the help of an impressive cast and crew. The film marks the beginning of production under Amblin’s overall agreement with Netflix. Holly Bario, president of a production at the studio, will be in charge of the production, while Brian Williams, Scott Greenberg, and Seth William Meier will executive produce through their company, Dylan Clark Productions.
The streamer has not yet provided any other information, including a release date.
