In a recent piece for Vanity Fair, Emma Caulfield Ford confirmed that she will reprise her role as Dottie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Dottie, one of the captive villagers on the series, has been the subject of much fan speculation ever since she was first introduced, and it appears that the studio will expand upon her character in the Kathryn Hahn-led spin-off. Ford, who just returned to work after hiding her fight with Multiple Sclerosis, admitted as much in a new interview. Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will recognise Caulfield as Angel, the demon with a kind heart. Since then, fans have been anticipating her entrance into the MCU with WandaVision with great anticipation.
Dottie is introduced as a villain in the Westview hex in WandaVision, the first series we see after the events of Avengers: Endgame, since she is held in extremely high respect by other women during the committee meeting preceding the talent competition. She was also among the first individuals to comment on the odd pair to Wanda, saying that she had “heard things” about them following their encounter. Later on, it becomes clear that Dottie, along with the rest of the town’s residents, fell prey to the hex.
Now, the character will return in the highly-anticipated Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Since neither the premise nor the characters have been announced, it remains to be seen how Dottie fits into Agatha’s larger story. The actress has opened out about her decision to be more public about her battle with MS and her decision to return to the programme. And now I must return to my job. Everybody who needed to be notified has been. I shouldn’t have been out in this heat, [I said], knowing what I know now. One of the few confirmed characters for the series set to debut in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Ford.
The spin-off was announced after Hahn received acclaim for playing Agatha, the witch who causes problems for Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) in the Disney+ series.
As the first series came to a close, Wanda cast a jinx on the Darkhold reader, convincing her that she is one of the townspeople she had been pretending to be all along. The rest of her life will presumably be documented in Coven of Chaos. Due to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the black magic book has been destroyed, and Wanda is in dire need of assistance. With Dottie’s return, viewers will likely revisit Westview to find out if she remembers Agatha and how the town is doing now that the curse has been broken. In the winter of 2023, Disney+ will debut the series.
