The Ultra HD re-release of “Highlander” Recreates Some of Its Mystical Thrills in 4K

Only one thing can possibly top last year’s present to Dad, and that would be a brand new movie for his collection. Finally, the legendary 1980s action picture Highlander is being released in 4K on December 13, just in time for the holidays. Scotsman Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is killed in a fierce fight in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, and this is the narrative told in the film Highlander. However, Connor’s relatives don’t shed tears for his passing; instead, they lament the witchcraft that gave him a new life.

Apparently, Connor MacLeod is immortal, and Sean Connery’s Juan Ramirez shares this fate with him. Ramirez quickly becomes friends with MacLeod and enlightens him on the nature of immortality. Yet, as the years fade away, Connor MacLeod and the other immortals are lured to New York City, where only one will be granted the Prize and the rest will perish (and heads). Since its premiere in 1986, the picture has become a cultural touchstone, spawning a film and television series with millions of admirers across the world. The 4K release of Highlander will include a number of bonus features, such as “The Immortal Attraction of Highlander,” “Looking back at four decades of Highlander magic,” “There can only be one Kurgan – Clancy Brown remembers Highlander,” “Capturing Immortality: Interview with photographer David James,” and “A Kind of Magic: Music of The Immortals.” Additionally, numerous audio commentary versions of the film, including those by Russell Mulcahy, Peter S. Davis, and William N. Panzer, will be included in the 4K edition.

Audio commentary from Mulcahy, the film’s director, will also be included among the Blu-bonus ray’s features. In addition to the trailer, there will be an interview with Mulcahy, an interview with Christopher Lambert, a “The Making of Highlander” featurette, deleted sequences, an archive interview with Christopher Lambert, and more on the Blu-ray.
On December 13th, the film’s 4K Ultra HD version will hit shelves. Epic artwork from the 1980s, Connor MacLeod in many guises, and dramatic lightning bolts decorate the release’s package. Both the 4K and Blu-ray releases will be available for $22.99. Also, a $27.99 Steelbook will be available only at Best Buy.
