Netflix has announced the release date of Lindsay Lohan’s holiday rom-com, Falling For Christmas, with what we think is the best marketing and Twitter caption ever. This tweet teases the November 10 release date for the film by alluding to the iconic moment in Mean Girls in which Lohan’s character, Cady Heron, reveals the date to her crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett). This breaking news is accompanied by a poster of Lohan and her co-star, Chord Overstreet (Glee). The release date and the film’s slogan, “This holiday season fall for the unexpected,” may be found in the film’s footer. Fans have been buzzing to learn more about Lohan’s current project since May 2021, when rumours of her acting comeback first surfaced.
The Freaky Friday actress will play a hotel heiress in Falling For Christmas who loses her memories after a bad ski accident (pun intended). In the days coming up to Christmas, the young woman heals under the watchful eyes of a gorgeous lodge owner and his little daughter, a story device that could only occur in a festive film. After a meteoric rise to fame as a child actor, Lohan went on to star in such classics as The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, both alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. When she was in her late teens and early 20s, the actress found herself the focus of paparazzi photographers and the object of their financial pursuit, prompting her to abandon her acting career and migrate to Europe and Dubai.
Fans have been waiting a long time to see Lohan back in a feature-length picture, despite her appearances in Paul Schrader’s The Canyons and a recurrent part on the British TV comedy Sick Note, not to mention her own MTV reality series. With the March announcement that two further projects starring Lohan will be produced by Netflix, it’s evident that the streaming service recognises it has a rating and viewership winner on its hands. However, no new details on the projects have been made public as of yet.
Falling For Christmas was directed by Janeen Damian, who also contributed to the writing with Jeff Bonnett, Ron Oliver, and Michael Damian. Brad Krevoy of MPCA and Michael Damian of Riviera Films will be the producers. The show’s executive producers are Amanda Phillips, Eric Jarboe, and David Wulf. After waiting over a year to see Lohan and Overstreet in action for the film, we’re relieved to have a release date to look forward to.
